I'm finally getting close to having my car painted. It's been a long process with extensive metal work having been done on it. I am trying to determine the location of the 6-Pack emblem on the bulge hood so I can pre drill the holes. The car is a 70 Challlenger RT.

I searched the forum and found one inquiry in the eBody hole location thread, but I never saw an answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are your emblems the three pin type, part number: 2998804 / 2998764 or are they two pin?  If your installing three pin I can post measurements sometime today however their may be problem getting a common point of reference.  How exact are your trying to be?

M - Would you mind measuring the diameter of the holes in your hood?  I bought some emblem barrel nut clips and I'm not sure they're correct.  Thanks

Happy to try and help.

I have two hoods:
- both are from cars with an SPD of September 1969 (in case something changed between early and later cars).
- both hoods have original paint (I believe), the hood with primer appears to have original paint underneath the primer.
- the EK2 hood had a 440 six-pack emblem. A 3/16 drill bit fits snug.
- the primer hood had 383 Magnum emblem.  Three of the four holes still had barrel nuts. A 11/64 drill bit fits snug.

I'm not sure why theirs a difference in emblem hole diameters between the two hoods?  A prior owner painted a dark color over the EK2 and filled in the emblem holes with rubber caulking.  I pulled the caulking out of the holes and wet sanded the dark paint off.  Perhaps the prior owner also re-drilled the emblem holes?

Hopefully the measurements and pics are of some use

Thanks Mike!  I'll take some measurements and get back to you.

M I'm going with a barrel clip designed for a 3/16 hole based on your measurements.  Thanks again

I'm glad I was able to help.  I've seen a few barrel nuts on eBay but don't recall seeing their size.  I need some as well.  Where are you ordering from?

I hopefully the measurements shown in the image above help?  Sorry I don't have a six-pack emblem to show the exact location of the emblem itself.

Best of luck
Mike.

I hope that I am doing this right. I apologize for not getting back sooner. I have been out of town on a fishing trip and just got home. I ordered the three pin emblems through Year One. They do not use the barrel nuts. I can mike the pins and get the hole diameter. What I was really trying to determine is the emblem location on the hood bulge. I didn't know if it was centered or if there were measurements to it's proper location on the hood bulge.

I really appreciate all the info that you provided. I am new to the forum and I am amazed at the wealth of knowledge available.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any progress?  I can share more measurements if you need?  I wish I had a couple of emblems I could put in place to help you with the measurements.

The first hole from the back of the hood (passenger side) are at: 18", 21 3/16" and 25 1/32".
The first hole from the back of the hood (drivers side) is at: 17 1/2".
The height placement appears to be closer toward the bottom of the hood bulge (see pic I posted earlier).

I'm not sure what how much variation there typical is between each side or between cars?  It would be interesting to learn how the hole locations were determined and what tool/jig was used.

Good luck!  Keep us updated on how it turns out and if you have any lessons learned to share (please).

440 Magnum Hood Emblem holes
I just found this thread, looks like a flexible tape measure is the way to go.  I: let me know if you still need this measurement.

MTull, I can't thank you enough for all of the help. This will get me the last few things I need done so I can get the car in paint. It's been a long process, but I'm excited to see the end results.

I wouldn't have been able to do it without your help. As always, I'm continually amazed at the knowledge and experience the membership has. Additionally everyone is always willing to help.

Thank you sir.
