Okay so I thought I had my rods in right but I only had first and second gears

I adjusted them and now I have 1/2 and 3/4 but no reverse

I'm assuming it's the rods

Can someone tell me which is right ? I see a few different ones

Some are similar but which is correct ?

Purepony

I was told it's like this but this looks like a b body trans

JonH

Your first 3 pictures are all conventional 4 speeds. It is my understanding that the 3/4 shift lever needs to be turned over as the picture in your second post shows, for an OD trans. @Chryco Psycho can set you straight....

Purepony

I'm pretty sure that's what I have and thank you for the response

I adjusted them and they're pretty tight for now

What do you recommend a check because I'm not getting a reverse
I get first second third and fourth but I'm not getting a reverse

I also have the wiring for the reverse light already but I haven't installed it yet I was hoping with the reverse light I could see when it goes in reverse because the light will probably turn on or come on

Alan is wrong ......
With OD the front lever needs to be inverted , the levers generally are pointed upwards but all OD the front lever for 3-4 is inverted otherwise you will shift 1-2-OD-3 in the regular shift pattern , this may require a slight bend in the 3-4 rod to clear the crossmember & not bind . :bigthumb:

Neil is correct...

Lopez guys I'm going crazy over here

Does someone have a picture of what it supposed to look like ? Please

Pictures speak a thousand words

The picture you posted is the right idea, see how the front lever is flipped so it points down & the rear lever points up? Thats what you want.... What is normally fourth gear (Direct) becomes third gear & the third gear location becomes fourth and do to the changed ratio on the cluster & dogged gear it is over drive...

BTW Thats an A body trans..

Oops...yup I'm 100% wrong again....I didn't realize you were working with an Over Drive transmission, I should have read your title more clearly, sorry for ANY confusion....The picture of yours I re-posted is the correct set-up for a regular A-833 (I removed it)
It was late at night  :tired: :haha:

Can you post a picture of what you have? As far as no reverse, can you shift it into reverse by grabbing the shift lever and moving it there without the rod attached? Do you know the history of the trans? Did it work before?

Purepony

Here's what I currently have

No reverse gear help

anlauto

And this is an overdrive transmission ?

Purepony

Yes overdrive trans with regular case
I was told they change to the standard case because they are more rigid and longer lasting
Overdrive internals

Chryco Psycho

Know what ?
You need to flip the front lever so it is pointing down & adjust the rod accordingly .

If you remove the rod from the reverse lever does the trans shift into reverse if so the problem is with the shifter , if not there is an internal problem with the trans
