I am wondering if polishing the surface led to the failure in part as it would have less "traction' to rotate the lifters , I fully believe other mistakes were made as well so hard to say what came first !!

Strawdawg

Think I said it earlier in the thread, but, I strongly disagree with polishing the lifter base.  Looks like you took a bullet but dodged a cannon ball.  It's irritating but you are not building a new engine so fix it and give it another shot.  :)

Thanks for all the comments guys. Busy week at the office and I have not had anytime to spend on the car.

The parts fairy showed up today, so hope to make some progress this week.

Special thanks to Ian, @jimynick for donating the intake gaskets, saved me a bunch!

Just making double sure...

You did buy 5-7 qts of Joe Gibbs and not just one. Correct?

@Topcat hahaha. Yeah man. 5 quarts of the good stuff!

Made a bunch of progress today. Got the valve springs changed back and the cam in and front of the front of the engine back together.

I likely wont get a chance to fire it up until Saturday so I am waiting until then to put the lifters and top end together. Wife is out of town next weekend so lots of time to kill!

Good work Jason. You must be sick of doing the valve springs now.

@RUNCHARGER ...yeah its getting a little old...but I am getting quicker at it.  The fact that I know I have to do it one more time is a bit of a bummer too.

Good hearing Jason.  :bigthumb:

I've got a dilemma myself going on with Strange Axles and stud lengths, replacement lugs.   :bricks:

You coated the cam with moly before you installed it I hope !!

Yes sir...Lunati includes a packet of Joe Gibbs assembly lube with the cam.  I coated the bearing surfaces and lobes with it.

I have some permatex assembly lube, red sticky stuff for the lifters.

Did the instructions tell you to coat the bearing surfaces?

No.. but I figured it could not hurt.  Knowing the cam will sit in the block for almost a week I figured a coating of the assembly lube / grease on the journals could not hurt and will still be on there when I go to fire it up.

Well the wife is away with our daughter for the weekend, so put the little man to bed about 9 tonight and out I went to the garage.

The goal was to get the bottom of the engine and the suspension back together...was out in the garage to 1:30 am and got more done then I hoped.
