The next leak I need to address is the aftermarket locking filler/dipstick tube on the 727 behind a 440.

The trans. has a deep TCI aluminum pan and an Allstar filler tube that looks to be the similar to many other locking filler tubes.

I don't have a lot of 727 experience.
I've tried twice to install the filler tube, it doesn't seem to want to fit in the trans. case correctly when I bolt it to the bell housing and fluid leaks out of what appears to be the top (or bottom or both) of the rubber grommet.
The filler tube goes in straight but gets tilted when bolted to the bell housing.

When I tried to adjust the filler tube for the second time I pulled the tube out of the trans case and fluid came gushing out of the hole in the trans, case....is this normal? Is the trans. overfilled?
I filled the trans. to the correct line on the dipstick with engine idling in neutral.
Where should the fluid level be in the trans. when the car is not running?
Should the fluid level be high enough to pour out of the open filler tube hole?

I'm going to drain the pan, remove the filler tube and do some test fitting.
The grommet appears to be a nice design that shouldn't leak if installed correctly.

Any experience and/or suggestions?

Thanks.

Sounds like the tab that mounts it is just putting pressure on it and causing it to leak.  You checked the trans fluid the right way, running, warm and in neutral so I'm sure you have the right amount in there.

Does it leak if you do not have it bolted to the bell?

I bought one of those Allstar tubes for a 340/727.  The mounting bracket was so far off I had to cut it off and reweld it. After getting it nice and straight it still leaked. I had this one wall I called the wall of shame, where all mistakes were hung to remind me never again. Thats where it went.  :rebelflag" :rebelflag"

I've installed easily a dozen of the new locking dipsticks, mostly Mancini house branded units... They have all fit well & none have leaked.... Couple things, put the grommet in the trans first then after applying lube insert the tube... If the bracket doesn't fall into pace with the tube in it's natural position they sold you the wrong part....  Back when Chrysler had first gone to the GM style tube seal I use to buy the OE small block tubes, cut them off & weld the upper portion of a big block tube to it just so I could get rid of the leak prone stock O ring seal design...

It appears the Allstar tube and grommet are identical to Mancini's.

The bracket is real close to being in the right spot, I think if I bend it just a wee bit it would be perfect.

I installed the tube with the grommet already on it so I will try installing the grommet first.
I might actually get a new grommet as I'm going to Summit Racing tomorrow to get a can of SEM landau black paint for the wife to spray the floor console.

On my OE tube which was leaking I replaced the O ring and used Permatex. Dry as a bone now.

Cool, hope it stays that way.....
I've owned & worked on these cars since 1975, if yours stays that way it will be in the small percentage.... Dip stick O ring leaks are one of the most common leaks on Mopars & the GM style seal & tube virtually eliminates the problem...

I attempted to find a replacement grommet today, no luck at Summit Racing so I called Allstar direct, they told me they don't sell a replacement grommet so I was SOL :notsure:

I'm hoping this one from Dorman will work.

This is what I used. I'll let you know if it develops a leak.
