Does anyone have a stock evap canister still installed on their car?  What I need to know is how (color) the mounting bracket is originally painted if at all, and how it mounts to the inner fender.  Is it mounted with bolts and nuts or with self tapping screws?  I think I have the right (3) bolt/nut combination for mine but they are pretty long for such thin sheet metal.  Pictures would be nice too of course.
Thanks

Mine is a 74. Don't know if there are year differences.
Bracket is painted black. Same color of canister.
It is not on car but could pull it out to show if no one else chimes in.
Found this pic. Zoom in and you can see the 3 clean spots from its mounting.

@YellowThumper thanks.  So it's a sort of semi-flat black?

Yes. Not in good shape as they were painted poorly. But it has same dull sheen as the plastic.
The triangle of holes near core support are them. Bracket has 3 mounting holes but only 2 were ever used on mine.
Have owned it since 83. It was all original.

@YellowThumper thanks that is very helpful  :bigthumb:
So screws and nuts holding it or just screws?

Zoom into plastic bag. Should be able to see.
They are the normal sheet metal screws. Same type as the screws holding firewall stuff on.
Probably about 3/4 inch long.

The bracket is the same color as every other black part that Chrysler used...very cheap gloss black paint.  The paint didn't have a high gloss that we are used to seeing today.  It was held on with sheet metal screws.

@Burdar thanks!  Sheet metal screws it is.  Now I need to figure out what the 3 screws and nuts I saved with the removed canister are for  :thinking:
The screws have captured washers and a "M" on them and the nuts too have free spinning washers with gripper "teeth".

Anyone have a clue what those three screws and nuts may be for?  :huh:

No idea for your setup. Could be possible someone changed them to bolts and nuts on canister bracket?
Check for witness of a nut on wheel side.
Other than that I got nothing else.

@YellowThumper yes quite possible they were changed out or maybe for that year it's what they used.  I do appreciate your help  :bigthumb:

@YellowThumper @Burdar ... Just following up I figured it out; I was looking at pre-disassembly photos and a noticed that the original inner fender apron had three capture nuts embedded in the panel where the canister mounts while the replacement ones I installed have just hole  :Thud: .  That would explain why just strews on the originals.  Now to figure where the nuts and bolts I have go.  I suspect the flanged nuts with "teeth" on the washers might be for my heater box mounting as I cannot find nuts anywhere for it.  :thinking:

Thanks

I can't say for sure.  I just looked through all my pictures and I don't have any of the PS front corner of the inner fender.  When I disassembled the car I just threw all the bolts in a tub and didn't label anything.  The inner fenders were replaced.  The new inners just had "dimples" where the canister bracket goes.  I had to drill holes for mounting.

EDIT: I just looked in the E-body fastener guide.  It calls for self tapping screws. (1/4 x .72"Lg Hex washer head self-tapping screws with serration's under head.) That's what is listed for 73-74.  Nothing is listed for 72.  It's possible that 72 used a different setup.  If you have good pictures of the area, maybe you could send them to MMC Detroit...the people that put out the guide. They might want to know about the difference between years.

Mrbill426

Yes they must have been different for '72; I am not sure what year they started installing those canisters but the re-pop apron I bought doesn't  have captured washers, in that area anyway.  I may just use the bolts I believe came off and nut them from inside the fender well.

@Burdar thanks.
