Hi Guys,

2 questions:

I've added a new intake on the 340 rebuild, it gives me way too many options to put the sending unit.  I was thinking on the drivers side so its a straight shot back to the gauge?  Is there any preference?  Would you use any particular hole as opposed to another? Or maybe the one on the pass is the only one in the water flow. Thanks

Also I circled in red a threaded hole that goes completely through the intake.  Should I just plug that one I don't see using it.  It's a 340, manual trans, 71 Challenger.

thanks
Dave

Any hole is fine for the sender
you need to add a nipple for the heater hose in one port ,
not sure why the hole goes right through the intake but yes you plug it

If that one hole doesn't leave a water jacket exposed then it doesn't have to be plugged.  The intake is made to fit a wide year range.  It could be for some accessory mounting bracket.  It looks like it's exposed to water though.

I put my sender on the passengers side because that's where the factory put it. The stock harness was made for it to be on that side.  If you aren't plugging the sending unit into the stock harness then you can put it anywhere.  Like Chryco said, don't forget about the heater hose nipple.

You may also want to change your thermostat housing since those ones always seem to leak. I found regular stock ones work best.

Perfect thanks guys.  Its not stock and the gauges are all new so I can put it anywhere.  Just looking for the path of least resistance.  Thanks again.

That looks like a billet aluminum housing to me.  They use an o-ring to seal.  The chrome ones I've heard are junk but I haven't heard of problems with the o-ring ones.

Daveh

Yes it has the "O" ring and I've had success in the past using that variety.  If I have issues I'm sure I will let you know my grief.   :madashell:  Isn't that why we love this hobby.  The Challenge of it all.  Pun intended.   :clapping:
