Both styles might be the ticket.  Good idea.

Just curious if you had any success with your dilemma or is it too soon to tell.

Too soon.  We have about a foot and a half of snow at the moment.
The car has not been resurrected from it's cold wintery tomb yet.

At this point I've done nothing but install 2 clamps on the nipple.
I think the goal is to have a ring that goes around the inset groove, on the outside of the hose and then clamp over the top of that ring so I get some kind of pressure into the groove.
I tried the original style ring clamp, corbin clamp,  but it doesn't really depress the thick rubber hose enough to do anything of significance. I will probably cut the tabs off the corbin clamp and use that as the ring to then use a screw clamp to compress the ring into the radiator hose.

Like Bullit suggested, I might end up with the corbin clamp on the inside of the hose instead of the outside.

I've also purchased a 74 radiator recovery tank to put in place of the summit racing bullet looking thing.  Similar weight so not anything of significance for the track times.

So I ended up putting a corbin clamp that I cut into the groove and sliding the hose over the ring in the depression.  Two clamps on top of the hose as well.  It isn't coming off.
I drove the car down the road, got it warm and then I hit it hard.  first gear raisin hell, then shift up into second and a huge puff of smoke behind the car.  And I mean huge!  I upshift into third and it went away a little bit.  Pulled over, flipped a  U turn and drove it home.  It's drippin a little here and there.
Shut it down in the garage and it just puddles radiator fluid from the overflow hose I have pointing at the ground.
I'm sure the puff of smoke was radiator fluid that came out and hit the hot exhaust.

I did not upgrade the cap to a 22$# like HP2 suggested.
Do yal think that would be the next thing to try?
Should I try the thermostat itself?

It's driving me nuts.   But dear lord is this thing fast.  Low 12's in Texas.  Fast to me anyway.

Well, after another run out on the street.

Upshift and a huge puff of smoke that does go away if I get out of the gas.  Turns out that I have some type of a trans leak.  My pipes show this.  And as I sat at the gas station laying under the car I noticed a few drips that indeed turned out to be trans fluid.
I think that may be the culprit for the leak.  Not sure where or what at this point but will have to trace that down.

When I pulled it back into the garage the temp on the gauge was 230.  When I stopped it at the gas station it was 218/220.
In the garage it was blowing fumes from the overflow hose.

Question,  if the trans is slightly over full will it force the fluid out?  Where does it come out of?  727 trans.  Breather valve or trans dip stick line?

My goodness there is a problem.
Not just with my ride, but with the forum.
I went on my phone to load the pics and more of the page is advertisements than the forum is.  No wonder phone users don't touch the forum.  Absolutely ridiculous.

Anyway, there are some pics of the obviously trans leak that is now discoloring my pipes.  That's gonna be next to impossible to remove.

Bullitt-

There seems to be several issues that might cause fluid to come out the dipstick tube... I found this post... He never confirms but it appears the ultimate issue was a stopped up coolant system.
  other possible issues
a. high fluid level ---- Drain fluid to correct level
b. Breather clogged ---- Inspect and clean breather vent opening in pump housing
c. Oil Filter clogged ----- Replace filter
d. Aerated fluid ------ Inspect for air leakage into oil pump suction passages

I have heard of them puking out of the dipstick tube.
Does your trans cool within your radiator? If yes, the motor temps can be causing trans to also overheat as well.

The trans thing is definitely a new issue.
I agree that it could very well be related to the cooling issue. Good point Thumper.

Thanks for the replies and leads to look into Wade.  Will follow up.
