I searched on google and here every way I could think of and I learned everything possible about a 4-speed trans crossmember except what color they're supposed to be.  I thought while I had the trans at the shop, I'd refresh the paint on the trans mount and the crossmember.  Originally, I painted the crossmember gloss black, but consiering how many things were originaly matt black, I'm wondering if the correct color for the crossmember might be a matt black?  :dunno: '70 'Cuda 440, 4-speed.
Thanks

What was the factory was thinking about back then.... as long as the parts were painted and protected from the elements they were considered good.  Think about how many runs and paint errors there were in the outside of the cars and a persona can understand that they didn't care more about the part color under the car.  So most of the parts were dipped or sprayed quickly with paint to add a protective layer.  The sheen wasn't a big deal.  And after they were driven for a few years the sheen would look a lot different too.  So most likely what started out shinny and new, looked pretty satin and matte after use.  So it is always a tough question to answer the exact sheen.  It's a good questions, but still a hard one to answer.  Was it cheap gloss paint that turned satin in a few years and then matte?  Was it quality satin paint that held it's sheen over time?  If it was me, I would use a nice high quality satin leaning towards the glossier side of the scale.  Then over time it should still hold up.  :alan2cents:
