I'm building a mild 440 for street use. What is a good, tunable distributor that is affordable. I prefer it look relatively stock(no giant DUI GM knock-offs). My other engines I built have one has a MSD that is expensive and the other a Mallory all in one that was much less expensive. Both work well for me. Should I use the stock distributor with a Mopar box? It that a tunable combination?

Before switching to EFI, I had a Firecore distributor and coil and really liked it.  It comes has an optional stock cap too. https://www.manciniracing.com/firradi.html

Use stock distributor and get it recurved and petronix'd!

PM for contact info of a great guy on the east coast who does amazing work at solid prices.

I have used tweaked stock dist up to 7200 rpm in racing
Firecore is a good option as well , don't buy FBO tho

The FBO mechanical limiter plate is a really awesome idea and good stuff though! Too bad the stock distributor of the 70' 340 doesn't really need mechanical limiting....my dizzy guy mailed it right back to me. He was pretty impressed with it though and didn't realize it was an option. He told me not often he finds that stock dizzys don't need mechanical limiting...I guess the '70 340 Dizzy was pretty hot...

Not sure of 440, 426, 383, etc.

I will say that it's pretty juvenile to pull an American-made Chrysler dizzy out and pay $120 for a Chinese "Mopar Performance" dizzy + box. You get what you pay for.....and my dizzy guy would hold a seminar on that....don't bite the temptation.

Your stock distributor is old, and has old technology, but boy is it made solid and there's professionals ready to help make it brand new for a cheap price that actually care for it. Please keep with it....Even if you buy "all new" you STILL have to spend additional money for a recurve. No distributer, ever, comes dialed in for your engine/conditions.

I'll put my tuned/re-worked Chrysler single point dizzy over ANY aftermarket setup w/out curving in a race.......and I still run points...

Contact Faron and keep your stock distributor. His work is amazing, and he will set it up based on your needs. He's mainly a Ford guy, but has a soft spot for Chrysler. https://www.facebook.com/Total-Performance-Ent-of-Pa-244861159762608/

When I don't have a core I usually buy an auto store rebuild, check the bearings, limit the advance and put it in. I find the trouble is getting a box that will last though. Even MP chrome boxes are junk now, MSD don't always last like the used to either.
