Dropping into 2nd gear: What RPM range can I be at?

So I'm shopping online for the Redline now.

When I put 80/90 wt. in, I recall what a PITA is was.

I used this little pump that screwed on the top and it took forever.   ::)

Thinking of taking the shifter boot off and let gravity do it's thing thru a funnel to a tube. 
Is that what others did?

Tell me what you think is the easiest and fastest way.

I used the pump and it was pretty quick!

Even better if you have a lift to do it on.

I put a piece of 3/8 fuel line on the bottle and squeezed it in. Car was on a lift. But it was still a big pain in the ass. Redline botttles have a different size cap so the ones that usually come on gear oil bottles won't fit. The ones with the pointed tips. I ended up pouring the Redline into a old gear oil bottle that had the tip so I could attach the hose. A pump would be nice.

I do the same as Shane and I hate it. I bend up some copper line and clamp a funnel to it then pour it in (under the hood).

If you use ATF4, it will give you the performance you want and when/if you need to add any, it's easy to get at any auto parts store. Redline... not so much.
ATF has been a 'go to' oil for 833's for decades.

Got a garden sprayer? pull the spray tip off, add a short piece of hose.... fill with fluid of your choice.. Pump it up, fill trans...

I drained out the 80/90 today.

Then I used this siphon pump from Harbor Freight.

This worked out really well.
Also used it to put my Peanut oil back into the 35 lb. container.

I put in the Redline AT 90 Synthetic with the pump.
Was about 3.5 quarts until it was filled.

My downshift from 3rd to second did improve a bit.
However it still is a bit of a force to get it in smoothly.

The 80/90 I drained, had a trace of bronze cloud color to it.
I'm starting to think that it might be I need to re build the 4 speed.

Only thing left is to re-go over the linkage on how they line up and re adjust.

Any tips, youtubes, videos would be good to see on this.

 I believe I have read of people just using a pin to line up the shift rod's

Yes.  I have used a drill bit as a pin before. Whatever that will fit snug and hold the shifter fingers. Then just fit each rod one by one adjusting so they just go into trans shift lever perfectly. That's it!

I'm thinking you have lower tail shaft some to get a pin in the shifter. I could be wrong but i seem to remember something about that.  :thinking: These last ones I did it was all out of the car so it's been a few years since I did one in the car.

I use a right angle allen wrench to set them up rather than a drill. Check for slop in the linkage holes  before you adjust the rods.
