Well it was the condenser. Picked a BWD at oreilys to replace the one I bought about a month ago. Started right up. Now on with the tuning.

Makes me wonder if I should just go electronic.

Thanks so much for the help.  :worship:

Note to self: weak intermittent spark check condenser.

So glad it's running.        That's a great feeling!   :drinkingbud:

While I never tried it, I kept this drawing in case someone else found it useful.

Exactly what was needed, thanks

Glad the condenser solved it. I've seen this problem before and it also seems to be a problem with coils that leak oil and fail. If you are trying to maintain a stock look you can install a mopar electronic pickup and reluctor inside the distributor and only the wire will show. There are also single wire pickups that are even more stock looking.

Yeah me too. I have an extra dual point distributor so a mopar electronic pickup could be an option. Can you or someone else elaborate? I'm thinking I could keep the same original coil..........Correct?

I personally would move to electronic ignition but this is a personal preference.

Using the cast iron body Prestolite you can't put the Chrysler electronic ignition inside.... But you can drop in the Pertronix  91384......

A couple of options. You could just install an electronic ignition kit with distributor and hide the ECU and route the wires through existing harnesses, making it appear stock. With a stock dual point you can install a Petronics ecu in the distributor and would look stock or modify your distributor by adding the mopar pick up/ reluctor in place of the points. And yes you can keep the same coil. I've always used the original mopar electronic pars for the distributor because they were easy to find in salvage yards and cheap. You can also buy replacements at the auto parts stores. The mopar stuff will bolt right into a point distributor but you will have to change the advance plate that holds the rotor to an electronic style. It's easy. see pic

well 1 Wild R/T beat me to the reply. And I agree.
