When installing green bearings, do you need to remove the oil seal in the axle housing?  See pic.
Contrary to the opinions of some, I am not dumber than I look.

I have not used green brgs since 85
But as I recall no the green brgs are sealed & do not lubricate from the diff oil & you do not want oil leaking from the diff so assuming they don't interfere with the retainer leave them in place .

Pretty sure the old one comes out.
If it needed to stay in the directions would say so.

From DR Diff Website

Green Bearings Howto

Remove old bearings
Drop the 5 hole retaining plate over the axle shaft
Grease the seal on the new bearings
Press the bearing tight against the axle flange with the seal facing the axle flange.
Press the lock-ring tight against the bearing.
Note:  Install the gray foam gasket between the brake backing plate and 5 hole retaining plate.

The original seals won't hurt anything and will keep help seal against excess oil.I actually put new ones in when I did my green bearings.
