Has anyone installed micro fuel pump?

I've become somewhat interested in this mod, but not sure if I need a pump or a check valve. I would prefer a check valve. Simpler cleaner etc. So while out in the garage yesterday I thought this would be a good time to change the fuel filter. Car hasn't been started in three months. So I put a pan under the filter fuel pump area. Removed the hose from the top of the filter....no gas. Dry. I pointed the filter down towards the pan on the floor and got a tablespoon or two. Then I removed the filter and pointed the fuel hose from the frame down towards the pan...a few drops. So I'm not sure if this means fuel slowly drains back into the tank...or evaporation - can it evaporate out of the lines through the carb? Or maybe both have a hand in it. Seeing as I'm not sure what the answer is I thought to myself...."What would Ian do?"...so I pulled up a chair and opened a beer and thought about it a bit....then decided to ask here. :drinkingbud:

@Solarguy Can you post a picture of where you mounted it please? I looked at the shock crossmember and the only place there's enough room put it right beside the exhaust. Also it puts it above the fuel tank, contrary to recommended installation instructions. I was thinking of putting it on the inside of the frame rail ahead of the axle to get it lower but that puts it 2.5-3' away from the tank. Also not recommended but I don't know how critical that is.

Primary issue for fuel pumps is they are designed to pump. Not suck.
As your intended purpose is not for continuous feed for fueling it, you can realistically mount it at any spot nearest the tank. All ya want is to fill bowls. Pump would still supply that even if it struggled a bit to pull fuel.
I mounted my electronic pump (feed and return) to a bracket that hangs down from shock cross member in-between the tank and axle pumpkin.
About as basic as they come. Two lengths of 1"x1" angle stock with a mounting plate welded on to them. To drop it lower.

@blown motor  I got a pic of mine mounted.  I had 2 criteria when selecting a place to mount. I didn't want to splice into the middle of the fuel and line and I wanted to make as few mounting holes as possible so that I or somoene else can very easily undo.  I used a piece of aluminum angle I had to make a bracket and hang it in the middle of the shock cross member using one hole from the fuel line mounting clamp closest to the sending unit. I did drill one additional mounting bolt hole 2 inches inward.  This keeps my rubber hose length short and  there is a body plug in trunk floor right by sending unit to drop wire through to power it.   Yes, technically the pump is mounted upside down, probable not ideal but it works perfectly and the mechanical pump pulls through no problem.  For use as a primer pump in 10 second intervals, I don't foresee a problem.  I still have to wire up a momentary switch inside.

Thanks Solarguy. That looks neat and tidy. I assume your tank was low on gas when you did it. Mine is full for the winter so this project won't happen right away. I crawled under to take another look and I think I'll drop a bracket down off the two bolts that hold the gas tank vapour manifold. That will put the pump low on the tank and between the tank and the pumpkin.

Thanks.  Yours sounds like a good spot and yes, I waited until I had less than 1/4 tank.
