I need to remove a head from a freshly assembled 383 short block. A mechanic friend of mine told me that I can reinstall the head gasket since the engine has not be run. The gaskets are Mopar Performance P4349559.
What are your thoughts on that?

I think you will find that it will be okay.  Most people will say that if it hasn't been ran and no heat put to the engine then it should be good to re-use.  But I don't know for sure and I guess for all the time and effort to have to fix it if there is an issue, that if it was me I would just spend a few bucks and put a new one on.

Why do you have to remove the head?

I was googling the part number on the gasket, it looks to be the composite type, and then in the first few search results was a link to an old thread on moparts about this - take a look at the comment by Cab_Burge.

I guess these MP gaskets aren't cheap they look to be $85/pr these days.

Crazy how expensive $10 parts are these days. I have copper coated composite head gaskets before with no ill effect.
