I noticed today my Hemi started smoking out the exhaust when I was going down a steep decline with RPM.
No problem on straight away's.

Was wondering if others have observed this before.

Obviously, oil is piling up near the valve seals because of the angle of decline.

Dammit, I knew those Ray Barton Toyota valve seals should've been bought instead.

Do you think it's coming in through the valves?

Topcat

Yes.

When I dropped RPM's it tended to subside. But it took a while.

Angie at MPW put Brodix brass guides with Manley valves in the engine.

It's a high pressure oil pump not a high volume.

What type are the seals? Regular umbrella or PC style? The PC ones usually don't leak much, if at all.

I have no idea what Angie used.

She's a reputed head specialist on Hemi engines.

Maybe a call to the "reputed head specialist" to see if she can either shed some light on the situation or offer to resolve it for you Mike? Just my  :alan2cents:

Maybe pull off a valve cover and post some pictures?  :takepicture:

Another thought crossed my mind is that one of the spark tube seals are letting oil get to the spark plug.

Hey TC, that is an easy check. Just pull the plugs and look at them. I recently went through the valves on my new bullet and discovered 6 out of 8 of the tube seals were leaking. I replaced them and fixed the issue.

Sounds like a plan.

As you can see I do have tube cups.

On a downhill, I bet it's getting oil piling up where the tube meets and it's leaking down.

Just curious, why is that one intake retainer different than the others?

I think Brad is talking about this one.

It might just be the way light is hitting it but it does look completely different.

On topic - most likely the tube seals are leaking cause it shouldn't be happening based what angle you drive on.

I agree. Exhaust retainer in the center of the picture looks like the light is reflecting straight on it causing it to look shiny....

Going to buy some new tubes.

It has to be the issue.

They are OEM originals.

The good thing is the engine doesn't smoke on flat lands where I normally take it out on.

I PMed Mike about this on CC.com the other day since I hadn't joined here yet... But now I'm gonna post it here for others to comment on...

I don't see the spark plug tubes as an issue, if they leak you get oil in the spark plug cavity & you might ground out a cylinder causing a miss, but there's no access for oil to the chamber so no oil will burn.... The only time oil will get in the chamber when you pull the plug....  Those  tube cups are designed to deflect oil when the valve cover is removed, with the cover on they don't do much....

Going down a long grade if the engine is being used to slow the car manifold vacuum will be at it's highest reading of an driving condition, & since Hemi intakes are bolted down with tiny bolts & have always been know for leaking & sucking oil I think thats where this problem lies....
