How to attach shifter boot ?

Anyone have any instructions or ideas on how to attach the shifter boot and bezel on a four speed hump with no console ?

Here what I have and there's holes but they are completely off
Am I missing something ?

Assuming you have a correct repro shifter boot & it looks like you do then maybe the car had a different boot mounted in it at one time ?
Looks like you will have to drill holes in the correct places . as I recall the boot mounted first using 4 holes & the chrome trim mount over it with 4 different holes .

That makes sense because the boot has 8 holes but the hump has 4

Here's what I did as the previous owners used some Mickey Mouse shifter boot in place of the original.   

I bought the repop stuff from Roseville.   

I ditched the screws and hit the hardware store for some that looked correct but had a finer machine thread. 

I used nutserts on the floor hump so there would be a proper threaded setup to put it all down.    The original holes were jogged out a little larger than the oem spec screws would allow.   

Drilled them to fit the nutserts (like a rivit with threads)

I installed new carpet and I was told using a soldering iron makes super clean holes and keeps the carpet from fraying.   

I couldn't be happier.       Just did this 2 nights ago.     
Such a simple thing, improved, back to an oem look.. 

I just used seam seal over the goofy holes from the previous people..   I painted it all black with a self etching epoxy paint (not sjown)

P.s.      the boot will look off if it's in neutral, 2nd or 4th.   

It looks proper when left in 1st or 3rd for it to look (relaxed)

What does the button do?  Passenger ejection seat?

When I redid my carpet, I got a piece of rubber from a semi truck inner tube and placed it over the hole for extra sound/heat protection. I had a hole just barely big enough for the shifter to fit through.
