Do I need to scrap my undercoating off in the wheel well area?

Maybe this is something I will show the media blaster.

Thanks
As cody staded,remove by hand,the bestway I found out is with air craft stripper,use a old paint brush and put it on like your painting it.let it sit 15-20 minuets and take a puddy knikfe and scrape it off,it will come of in chunks,repeat as nessesary if real thick,be careful and where a long sleeve shirt and gloves,this stuff WILL burn your skin and make sure to where eye protection.some nasty stuff nut works great,  :cheers:

You forgot to mention the really fast method with a lift and torch.

But as Alan said you have dodge a falling rear.

Sort of late to the game.  But I went through exactly what you're talking about during my restoration.  Re the trans.  As stated some trans fluid will leak when you removed the  driveshaft yoke, but after you have  removed the trans from the car you can block the rear of the trans up with some 2X4s and that will prevent it from leaking further.   As Cody stated the media blasting won't removed the undercoating from the wheel wells and/or fenders.  You can do it either before you take it to the blaster or afterwards like I did.  I don't see that it makes a lot of difference.  After removal make sure you spray them with Rust Bullet or Por-15 before re-painting or adding new undercoating.  I used the torch and putty knife method of removing the undercoating.  Worked very well.  Don't get the undercoating to hot or it will catch fire.  Just soften it up good with the torch and wear a mask as the fumes can get rather strong.

@Cuda Cody

You said...
"Factory undercoating is to SOFT for the media blaster"

So remove by hand as the media will cause damage to the wheel well area if blasted?  This scraping sounds like real fun. :cool:

Thanks

Cuda Cody

It takes lot of time and it's not as fun as it may sound.  But it needs to be done if you're going to blast the metal underneath it.   The media blasting will not remove it.

I would not want to be the guy that has to do it laying flat on his back.  :Thud:   Much easier on a rotisserie.
