I was prepping my 4 speed to drop off at Brewers during Carlisle and need some expertise. When I pulled it out of storage I realized the tail shaft was aluminum and then remembered when I bought the car the former owner mentioned something about it being rebuilt. So I have a couple questions...

1) Is the tail shaft something special? I found an old posting on Moparts saying the part number was some sort of old Pro Stock piece. I have attached pictures of the tail shaft and part number.

2) I have also attached pictures of the gear set. Is there any thing out of the ordinary or anything that looks like it needs replaced?

That's just an over the counter tale housing. It lightweight. Don't know of any value. The gears look pretty good, honestly.

Hmm: Yes it does look like an over the counter Hustle Stuff tailhousing. You would have to count first gear teeth to determine if they are original or not. Nice thing is it is NOT slickshifted. All the gears look real nice to my old eyes through the computer screen. It shouldn't take much for a rebuild and it doesn't look to have many miles on it at all. Personally I would disassemble it but I doubt I would throw many parts at it at all.

Well I have rebuilt numerous 833 transmissions , I have never seen an alum tailhousing , ever so yes I would say it is rare , even all of the alum case OD transmissions I have built have all had the iron tailhousing .My fear would be getting it back if you send it in for rebuild although I truely believe Dan Brewer & Jamie Passon to be honest people , but the workers .... ?
Why not try running it as is & see if it needs any attention first ?

I was thinking unless you were not going to change the tail shaft to a stock one I'd put it in and see how it is. What you can see sure looks good. Of course there's a few things you can't see but it sure doesn't look beat up.

I appreciate all the replies...you guys have made up my mind to run it the way it is. I will put a new gasket set in it. Thanks again.
