Service block.  Any information out there about service blocks?

I"m trying to free this thing up but it's being a bear.  It does not appear to have anything broken and not any rust on the bottom side of the pistons/cylinders.  Grimey gunk on top side of pistons and cylinders.  Can't seem to get it to turn at all.  I've flipped it several times and keep PB blasting it and letting it soak a week before spinning it and soaking more.

Anyway,  more interested in what a service block is.

Can't say this is the answer to the question, but I have come across 440's used to power back up generators. Got pics somewhere. And they were run on propane

I have got no answer either but keen to hear what the experts have to say. Following!

Did you check the bottom end? See if you have any play on the connecting rods 1st. It is possible to starve the engine of oil, the bearings will just weld to the crank or con rods. That would be the worst case. Crank should also have at least 0.003 end play. You should be able to figure out if anything is frozen.

cuda hunter

Connecting rods do not move back and forth.
I can't seem to find my dial indicator to check crank shaft end play.   I know .003 is not much movement but I can't see any movement of the crank either.

a "service" long or short block would be one that was available over-the-counter for sale or as a warranty replacement

with an 11*14*69 (Friday 11/14/69) casting date & a 1 9 - 2 (Friday 1/9/70 shift 2) engine assembly date

what pistons, rods, and balancer were/are on it?  got pics?

6bblgt

the "WT" on the top pad is for Water Test - commonly found on SERVICE engines & HEMIs

did this come with the 'cuda project you have?  what are the dates of other components such as the heads/intake/exhaust?

what's the SPD of the car?

is there a rivet around the forward most freeze plug on the passenger side of the block?

cuda hunter

no heads no intake no exhaust no balancer

I'll get some numbers from the pistons and rods.

This came with the challenger project I purchased.  It did not originally come with the challenger.

It does not appear to have a rivet or hole.  However I have not cleaned the side of the block at all.

Any idea of where abouts the hole would be?

There does not appear to be a hole or rivet..... What is the significance of the hole or rivet?
