I need to remove a head from a freshly assembled 383 short block. A mechanic friend of mine told me that I can reinstall the head gasket since the engine has not be run. The gaskets are Mopar Performance P4349559.

What are your thoughts on that? It would be nice to reuse it rather than spending another $100 on a set, but, what do the engine experts say?

I would buy another set.  The gasket, even though not run, still has been compressed.  A new one is cheap insurance to not worry about a possible leak once it is all put back together.  I wouldn't want to remove it again and this time, water and oil will drip all over.

That's what I am thinking will be best.

Unless it is a Cometic multi layer, you only get to use a head gasket once.....so...you gotta buy another.
