Need a new friction disc for my RR (383 A833). Got a10.5 B&B in at present, have got a 11" B&B but no disc.

Question : do I buy a new disc from Brewers ($155) for the B&B I have OR do I buy a Diaphragm clutch kit from Rockauto. They stock brands unknown to me,  M-Pact, Lux, Perfection, but they are in my price range.  RAM and McCloud bit pricey.

Have read previous posts about different pedal feel.

Is it a case of you get what you pay for.

I will be in LA for 2 days in December and hope to pack my extra bag with car parts, a friction disc is much lighter than a kit.

Thanks
Tony

Now often do you want to replace the clutch ?

I've had bad luck anytime I used a diaphraghm clutch. If it was me and I was sure the clutch cover was in good shape (typically a good one will last through 2 or 3 discs) I would buy a new disc from Brewers. I'd install a new throw out bearing too. I've had best luck with Mcleod but it seems they have dropped a few good choices lately, just call Brewers, they'll give you the best advice. (maybe email them to avoid having to get up in the middle the night to call)

Thanks for your replies ,
Anlauto I assume you are confirming " you get what you pay for".

Runcharger I like your advice, especially about getting up in the middle of the night. I installed a Mcleod diaphragm in my cuda and it is going great.  The 11" clutch cover I have does look to be in excellent shape.

Pretty much, there's some areas of your build you really don't want to cut corners only to save a few bucks, and I would put clutch on that list. :alan2cents:

Anyone who has problems with their clutch.... It ain't because they went with a diaphragm pressure plate over a 3-finger pressure plate.    Hellcats with 700+ ho come factory with a diaphragm clutch.

I didn't see... did you say how much HP?  What kind of tires?   How you going to use it?    These all matter.    As long as you avoid the cheapest made in china junk, pretty much any clutch will work if you only have street radial tires—tires will spin before your clutch will.

Cool edit.  My point remains though. A diaphragm is a diaphragm.

For instance, I have a 420 flywheel hp motor in a 4200 lb Dakota, on 285/35/19 'summer sport' street tires.   My clutch is a generic organic disc with a cheap ram diaphragm pressure plate.   I can drop the clutch at 2500 rpm in 2nd gear for big Smokey burnouts; I can do a max effort launch for best ET.   My tires spin before my clutch.

But I wouldn't trust said clutch with 500+ hp and super sticky slicks.

Have had a McLeod diaphragm clutch in mine for better than 20 years.
My opinion is there is no issue with them other than "adjusted" pedal height.
Will go with the previous comments that brand does matter here.
Rockauto option will be at best average.

Thanks for all the feedback guys , much appreciated.

I ring Brewers when they reopen and ask them, am leaning towards the new friction disk to go with my 11" B&B.

RR will only be a cruiser .

Cheers
