When I was building a W-2 headed 340 in the '80's I looked at using a mechanical roller cam but decided against it. IIRC with the roller lifters that were available then you had to bush the lifter bores or "sleeve" the lifter oil galley to prevent oil pressure loss when the roller part of the lifter uncovered the oil galley at full lift. For a non-Magnum LA block I don't know if that is still applicable with the lifters that are available today or not??
Cheers!

Tis' better to have owned classic Mopars and lost than to have never owned at all (apologies to Alfred Lord Tennyson)

Thus the later 87-92 LA roller blocks are very desirable

Do machine shops still resurface flat tappets?
Not all, but there are still some that will.  I believe Oregon Cam Grinding will.

Any idea how much lift will the stock Magnum roller lifters handle?
My understanding is that the magnum blocks have taller lifter bores than the previous LA blocks and that allows them to take more lift with a hydraulic roller without exposing the oil band?
I've had my eye out for an LA roller block for a while but nothing has fallen into my lap yet.

The lifter bores are quite a bit taller.  It was one of the first things I noticed when I bought this MP short block back in 2000.

Comps and Hughes Engines make roller lifters specifically for early LA engines without the need to bush the lifter bores. That plus 1.6 or may be 1.7 roller rockers give you the lift for a street engine.
