temperature sending unit

Is this the proper location for the temp sending unit?  I saw some at Carlisle that were on top of the water pump housing on the driver's side.  I did not see any in this location, but there may have been many like this that I just did not notice.

Mine is also on top of the housing, driver's side. But it is an aluminum housing and not the original motor (440).
Not much help I know

Yes that is correct
