I have a 1970 Barracuda Gran Coupe, not that collectible but am keeping the numbers matching block and trans.  Block is back from the machine shop and I'm about to assemble the 440source stroker kit and ported heads, big solid roller cam and beehive springs, a 1050 CFM carb and 2" headers. Rough guess the 489ci motor should put out under 600hp and over 600tq.

For the trans I have a TCI Super Street rebuild kit, and a TCI Street fighter converter.  I see a ton of replacement internal parts for the 727, including 1971+ pumps with wider bushings, etc., all overkill for my street car which may see the strip once or twice a year.  What's the minimal upgrades required if I don't want to grenade my numbers matching trans case?

The 8-3/4 on leafs will be replaced by a Dana 60 and 3-link suspension.

There isn't that much you would normally want to upgrade within the transmission, outside what's included in the rebuild kit, unless you have some extreme need, like an 800HP drag car or something like that.

I've used the B&M Shift Kit and Trans Kit products a few times.  The kits often include upgraded parts, where needed.

The "Shift Kit" generally provides items for upgrading the valve body-only, and what is needed to modify and improve shifting speeds via the valve body. The valve body kind of comes out, first, and can be removed and serviced without tearing down the whole transmission.

But the "Trans Kit" includes more stuff, as it usually contains all that is needed to tear down and rebuild the whole transmission.  Not only gaskets and seals, but upgraded parts, too.  The first time I did a trans kit,  I found it included an upgraded kick down lever, and a couple of different governors.

If you've identified a part that is failing, or just not holding up well, then go ahead and upgrade that part.  The 727 is a tough transmission, and is found behind many 500HP+ engines without the need for any upgraded parts.  If you're still set on looking at upgrades, talk to the guys selling the parts.  Few of them are not out to sell you something you don't need.  They want your repeat business.  I've heard really good things about A&A transmissions of Stockton, CA numerous times.
