Tremec TKO in e-body

Hey guys,

Finally getting around to doing some work on the drivetrain.. We are putting together a Challenger and a Cuda, both with Tremec TKO conversions from the now defunct Keisler. They are the updated versions from circa 2006, with the newer clutches / shifter mechanisms. I am looking at various threads online regarding these conversions and I see a lot of people experienced significant problems with these kits. We have the engine / trans etc installed in the Challenger and the driveshaft looks to be too long, there's very little (1/8th") clearance from he driveshaft to the shifter mech.

Does anybody have any experience with getting the TKO to work properly in an e-body? Any pointers you can provide?

Dayclona on Moparts was very helpful in answering my TKO install questions.  He's done quite a few conversions.

:alan2cents: if you haven't already, double check that the engine is in the right location and the driveline angles are correct.  I had to shim my engine and use almost all of the provided transmission mount spacers to get 3 deg down at the transmission.

I would do some research before you buy , I have done a couple of TKO trans installs , not really impressed with the result  .
Jamie is turning out a lot more of the A855 s now & he has Hemi 4 spd OD in stock , both are nicer than the TKO IMO  :bigthumb:

Sounds like good stuff Neil, but at $5500 usd for the trans itself, it'll be never before I'd be able to afford one. Sigh.  :bigmoney:

Yikes, I can see that cost being worth it if you didn't want to cut up a car, though.

I bet the cost of the TKO is similar seeing as you have to replace the clutch , belhousing cut the floor , change driveshaft & yolk , & pay for the trans
where the A855 bolts in all you might have to change is the clutch disc to match the hemi spline .  :thinking:

If I were you I'd look on Kijji for the stock 4 speed Mopar OD. My buddy Darcy has bought 4 of them in the last couple years. They are out there, 200-400 ish?

I have installed a lot of those , Most people are Ok with them but they have a wide ratio [ high rpm drop between gears] , but they work great

I purchased the transmissions ten years ago :) Life happened so they sat on the shelf in the shop along with the cars. A friend of mine gave me a swift kick in the @ss recently and said he'd help me wrench if we got these cars together... So we are banging it out. The progress we have made in the last week as been nothing short of amazing. The Challenger will be running within a week and road worthy within a month.. The Cuda requires a LOT of pieces to get back on the road but it should be running in a month or two at most if we can keep up this same pace.

With your setup all working are you happy with it or are you ready to go after the "A-855"? :)

Different situation if you already have the parts , great that you will have it drivable in a few days  :bigthumb:
