Vacuum canister obstructed by oil sending unit

Another possibility would to be to shorten the nipple enough to get it where the distribnutor will clear the sending unit. It looks that the nipple may belong enough, but only positive with it in hand. You would need pipe die for it and many tap and die sets have the small piping dies. You would need to insert an obstruction to keep shavings from getting lodged in the unit. Remove the obstruction when finished, or just buy one that fits. 

I'm going to try this tomorrow and report back. My understanding is that it is a 1/8 NPT so I'll need to pick up a die.

Well now we know. I was hoping the pin hole in nipple went a little deeper but it didn't. Going to re-index the shaft but would still like to find a OPSU that will be out of the way.

I picked up another one at Oreilly's and it's the same length but I chased the threads with a 1/8 NPT die in hopes that it would help but no luck.

Oh no. I begin to cut it and when I realized it was hollow I just broke it off.

Yeah that would have been the end of it for me. 

I noticed that your sending unit seems shorter than mine. Look at the distance between the top of the threads and the bottom of nut. Do you rememeber where you got yours. I also see that the Electronic dist. looks a tad taller.
