Changing out my valve cover gaskets on my 70 383. It had the long performance style valve cover bolts that need a T wrench to remove. The gaskets were leaking because a couple of the long bolts had snapped off.
I want to change back to the factory style set up 1/4" coarse bolts.
How long should the 1/4" bolts be on the valve covers? I'm assuming they need a flat washer as well?

It would depend what covers you are using & the thickness of the gasket , the holes in the heads are not very deep so 3/4 "  for stock steel covers

The outside lower corners actually used studs/nuts from the factory. You can buy a reproduction valve cover bolt kit if you really care to... :dunno:
