Attaching and inserting images

It would NOT remove attachments entirely.. it would just be removing the image preview . So like stated in the OP when you upload an image and put it in the post, you essentially get two images. One being the image itself and the other being a preview image at the bottom.  That preview at the bottom would be removed but the file would still be there to download.  The attachment itself would not be removed.

I think some of you guys might be overthinking this. Removing the preview function would only remove the duplicate image that gets left under the post window. The attachments will stay. They actually can't be removed precisely because they are "attached".

Most users will not take the time to put the image in the post.  So by keeping the preview on it makes it easy for people to attach an image and for others to preview it without having to download it.  I'll bet that half the users do not even know how to put the image in the text of the thread.

We went with this forum software because the old CC site was using it and we always held out hope we could combine or at least merge the sites and info.  This software can be very powerful however there are other commercial forum software that can do a lot of nice things too, like Cuda Hunter has pointed out.  @TwitchisMental is a genius at this forum software and the guy that build our custom look / layout.  We all owe him a huge thank you for everything he has done to help us.  But ultimately it's my call to keep the site with the preview on.

So great news for this issue. I have gotten a Mod Package made to resolve this issue. There is now an option under Profile > Look and Layout > Board and Topic Display > "Don't display image attachments as pictures under a post" to change whether you see the image preview or not. So if you rather not see the preview below the post, you no longer have to .

I looked at the last thread I posted my latest pictures in using the "Click or drag files here to attach" after I checked that "Don't display...." box and they're gone from the thread

All my pictures are gone from threads I use the "Click........to attach" function. I think I'll go back and uncheck that box.

Yup, pretty much what I addressed in Post #23and was more or less assured that wouldn't happen. No way am I going to reinsert ALL the pictures I posted over the years.

Nor will I be downloading any member's pictures that checked that box.

The preview is gone yes.  When you actually insert said attachment into the post it will be displayed.  This is exactly why I wanted this to be optional for each individual member.  Everyone has a preference.

Awesome, thanks for doing this. It made no sense to me to have an image display twice. Funny how some people didn't even notice it.

That said - can you confirm for the others that the preview function does not determine whether the image will appear in the post regardless of it being inserted into the text or not? In theory, attachments should still be visible at the bottom of a post whether it was placed into the text or not. The redundant image under the post window was what should be eliminated, not the appearance of the image in the post itself.

This option only removes the preview image nothing more.  The attachments are still shown as seen in others screenshots.

3. No picture present, only the paper clip (attachment/filename).
4. Click the attachment and picture automatically downloads, doesn't display in the thread.
5. To see the picture I have to go to my downloads.
It seems that pictures added using the "Click or drag files here to attach them." do not show in the post if one has that box checked on a PC w/Win10.

Apple iPad5 OS 16.7.10
Same steps/results as 1, 2, and 3 above...BUT...
Clicking on the attachment gives the option to View or Download.

Okay so first this is functioning as it is supposed to .

I would like to explain this as clearly as I can one more time.

You have an attachment, if it is an image by default it will show a preview. This is what you are seeing normally.(or won't see with the new option enabled)

However what you would normally do is actually insert it into the post after attaching. That would show you the picture in the post even with preview being turned off.

What a lot of you have done is simply attached an image but didn't actually insert it. So you have been seeing the preview at the bottom and using that to see the image .
Which is just fine. There is nothing wrong with that at all.

All of this is exactly why I got a package made to make this a user selectable option instead of turning it off for all users.  So if you are used to seeing the preview, you can still see it. If you don't wanna see a preview, you don't have to .  I hope this clears everything up on this matter.  If not well I don't what else to say hahaha.
