new members threads

On Cbodies.org I notice that when someone joins the site there is automatically a thread opened with their name and a welcome behind it.  Was kinda annoying at first but I have noticed that it really helps break the ice when someone is a newbie.  It makes them start a thread.  I was caught off guard by this on my first thread.  I had to talk about my lame opening statement. 

I really like it now that I have seen it for a while.  Gives me an idea of how many really frequent the sites. I'm blown away by how many people join the site.     
Is this something that can be added or used on the current software? 

Any opinions?
