That's exactly what happened with the Hertz Mustangs. Someone would rent them on Friday and bring them back Monday with a smaller engine.

I heard allot more stories of them being rented for the weekend & returned with evidence of having a roll bar added to pass tech inspection, raced all weekend & the roll bar cut out before the car was returned...

ShaKER CUDA 2nd row back on the left , that would be a fun rental  :cooldance:

Imagine back in the day if you owned a Cuda with the same engine and colour....RENT the shaker car for the weekend and return it missing the complete shaker set-up....See if the Lady at the counter notices the two-scoop hood you put on it it's place  :haha: :haha:

I had an Uncle that rented a new K-Car just to swap rims and tires when his were worn out.  ::)

YellowThumper

Long ago I had a friend who would "borrow" a part he needed for his car from someone. Then come back a week or two later and take the new part while leaving the old one...

Had.

Why were so many convertible race cars? Were they not heavier being a convertible?  :notsure:

RUNCHARGER

NHRA put them 1 class lower because their weight was a touch heavier making them more competitive than the hardtops. Convt's ran SS/EA or SS/E compared to SS/DA or SS/D for the hardtops. It probably only lasted a few years, I can't quite remember now.

I would also hazard a guess that it would be easy to keep the front weight the same as a hardtop and add anything extra to make minimum to the rear so that would give them a traction advantage as well.
