Nothing like being woke up to the smoke detectors going off in the house at 3:30 this morning and smelling smoke, after getting everyone out and the fire dept here they think it`s just heat/humidity setting one off or they may need replacing as house is 12 yrs old but ...  :o They only went off for maybe 5-10 seconds, scary thing is wife and kid didn`t even wake up untill I turned lights on. Police were here quickly and fire not too long behind, fire chief smelled a little smoke outside but they checked out home and found nothing, smoke smell may have been a smoldering campfire somewhere close by and with the heavy air just got it the house. They alarms have gone off twice real quick since so I`m still nervous, I guess it`s time to replace all the alarms to be safe.

Geez Louise, glad it was a false alarm especially after all the "fire" stuff you've gone through. Thanks for putting "everyone & everything is oK" in the subject line. My first thought was what's burned at Jeff's place now.

Ya, I made sure to put the "OK" in the subject line to not panic anyone and ya, I`ve had enough bad dealings with fire lately.

The smoke smell would be concerning.  Fire alarms going off with dead batteries or when they hit 5 years is not too surprising. I bet you didn't get back to sleep.

Not right away but wife and I took turns getting naps in today, the only thing I can figure is the smoke smell was from someones campfire nearby as the air was pretty heavy. They went two more times for a couple seconds this morning and nothing since then but I`m off to get 6 new smoke alarms to replace them all.

Hmmm, just thinking out loud here. I wonder what, if anything, would have happened if you and the family were at Carlisle when Police and Fire showed up.

Glad everyone is OK.

In a prior location , I had a situation where the fire alarm would be blaring for about 30 seconds and then shut off.   This seemed to always happen in the middle of the night.  Eventually figured out the alarm was being caused by dust inside the detector that was getting agitated by air movement from the house a\c system   The smoke detector was mounted too close to the vent

The fire dept used a can of compressed air to blow them out to see if it helped. I just installed all new ones as they were past thier life limit anyway, nothing has gone off since this morning.
