One thing that does come into my mind is if some of these builds are subsided by the producers.
Ex.  Another realm - Judge Judy.  The judgement awards are paid by the show, not the defendants.
Perhaps these high invoices are not totally funded by the customer.

If the cars owners are agreeing to be filmed, you know they're being compensated

I enjoy Fantomworks more than most shows of this ilk but the obsession with locking up the brakes & devoting an entire segment of this on each car is getting old..... I guess if it's the only episode you ever saw it's interesting but jeshhhh ......
