During a big wind storm a few weeks back we had a large section of a tree top come down at my brothers house.  We had to cut a bit more off to make it safe.   Left the wood on the ground for a little over a week until we had the time to cut it up for firewood.  So last Sunday we're cutting the branches up and we're about 2.5 hours in to cutting it up with chainsaws and removing the wood when a bird comes flying out.  The bird had made a next in the fallen branches on the ground.  There were 3 small eggs in the next.  We took the branch with the nest still on it and moved it about 10 feet out of the way so we could keep working.  Set it on the ground and the little bird came back to lay on the eggs WHILE we were still using the chainsaws and cutting up logs.  So that's when I had an idea.

We cut a tree section so we could stand it up and we put the nest on top with some branches for cover.  Momma bird came right over and jump in her new nest as soon as we had it ready for her.  That was 5 days ago and just checked on her today and she's still on the next.  Made us feel good that we didn't ruin her nest.  Thought I would share because I thought it was a neat story.

The last photo is a zoomed in close up because I didn't want to scare her off the next to get a photo.  But if you look close you can see her eye and beak.

if it's only on top of that stump  a cat/raccoon/predator will get to it before the eggs hatch

The nest was on the ground about 1 foot up on a branch originally.  It's kinda odd that they nested there.  We don't have many cats or small predators in the that area.   Probably due to the major traffic and roads.  Maybe that's why the birds nested there.   :notsure:

I had a bird build a nest in the eve of my shop. Well one of them must have been a ugly duckling because mama kicked him out. SO
My wife and daughter decided to raise it. They fed it canned cat food and in no time it was full grown and then they released it. And every year the same bird comes back to my shop, and you are thinking how do I know it is the same bird? WELL the darn thing meows all the time    True story except for the meowing
Get in, I'll drive

These birds build nests faster than @anlauto builds e-bodies!

That's cool, my cat would be quite interested in that.
