Guess you think all companies should crash and burn and the workers w/families just stand on off-ramps w/cardboard signs.

I think that all companies and people should be treated equally.  I do not like the idea of the government getting to pick winners and losers.
Exactly my point.
The market did not go away. It just would have changed hands. Competing companies were prevented from growing their brand along with more hires for them.
And point of thread is the jobs are going away anyway...

When Mercedes gutted Chrysler and left it for dead it should have died as well. Private enterprise would have picked up what was left and things would have likely been restarted with better control and products. Don't get me wrong I like my Ram truck and the Challengers are neat but FCA's cars will not be going into the future.

Google 'SNC Lavalin' in Canada and see how blatant our government tries to favor certain companies.  :steamingmad:

There is a GM commercial in Canada running recently. They are flogging the Silverado as a strong heavy duty truck. Talks about the tough work in Canada and 'you get out of it, what you put into it'. I hope consumers make them understand those words.

To your point, why give bailout money to a company that is headed elsewhere anyway. Redirect that funding to some industry that will actually keep jobs here. What a concept?

If you all haven't yet come to the conclusion that China has woken up and smelt the coffee and knows that they don't have to go to war with capitalism; that they'll simply BUY it with the money that capitalism gives it, for the cheap $hit that they've made and sold in N.America for decades now, then it's high time you did. And it's feeble to blame capitalism for doing what capitalism has always done and that is to go to wherever and to whomever makes their products so that they maximize their profit potential. Don't forget old Karl Marx who said "we'll hang the last capitalist, with a rope that he sold us". The chinks are playing economic hardball laddies and we'd best get our $hite and game together! Hit them where they're vulnerable, in their wallet and buy North American when and where you can.  :console:

China has it's own problems with Shadow banking. Watch when they cut taxes to appease the peasants and then they will have to figure out how they will pay for all those bonds for Cities which no one lives in.

:bricks:

The problem being is that our financial system is so interconnected that we will all suffer.

Some more than others.

The "free" multi billions could have been provided as a direct personal offset to cost of employment. Govn cannot dictate companies to hire. But they could provide the direct financial assistance for every hire.
That in a different way is exactly what China does with equipment subsidizing.

They'll likely sell some of the $1.138 TRILLION dollars of USA bonds that they hold. Think about that for a second. Feel the shiver? You should.  :bye:

The 1 Trillion dollars that China holds of our Treasury Bonds is a drop in the bucket to the debt load they hold.

Check it out. Yes if China dumps the T-Bills it will be painful no doubt but they will also be hurting themselves at the same time.
