I find it a "sad" day thinking of those who have given their lives for us.....Were they "happy" to do it ? That I can't answer. :andyangel:

I think that's the difference between our veterans day and memorial day. Veterans day is celebrating all who serve, memorial day is for the ones we lost.

Today in Canada it's called "Remembrance Day" ..... remembering our fallen heros.  :andyangel:

Now I realize my mistake....Happy Veterans Day
I've taught you everything you know....but I haven't taught you everything I know....

It was a day remembering my father and his service to this country.

I was in the Army when Reagan was President.

Remember the botched rescue mission in Iran?
Helicopters crashed from a sand storm trying to do a rescue.

I was in Germany then.
Base went to Red Alert.

Sent to Frankfurt on standby in full gear.
We slept and sat around for 2 days on a Tarmac waiting for deployment.

Never escalated.

The resources for Veterans entering the Civilian world then vs. now is night and day.

When I ETS'd in 83', there wasn't any resources.
No places to try and get you a better paying job.

Hire a Vet was unheard of.

Operation Eagle Claw was on Carter's watch....

On November 4, 1979, a group of Iranian students stormed the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, taking more than 60 American hostages. ... The students set their hostages free on January 21, 1981, 444 days after the crisis began and just hours after President Ronald Reagan delivered his inaugural address.

I was on Guam at the time but I'd spent time in the Middle East prior to my time on the island....
