Had time today to get the car raised. Here it sits on 3-ton jack stands underneath the rear axle as close to touching the tires as possible and 6-ton jack stands directly underneath the rearmost front bumper bracket bolt. It feels rock solid when trying to shove it around a bit. It was raised in 3 steps. And still possible to go up another 1.5" or there abouts if necessary.

Thanks for all the replies on getting the car safely sitting on jack stands.

Now for the last part of my original question: Did you start the car while on jack stands?

I will be installing a HydraTech Hydro-Boost system along with a new dual inlet power steering pump. This procedure calls for turning the steering wheel lock to lock about 40 times. It is suggested to do this with the front wheels off the ground.

Since I'll also be replacing all the hard & soft brake lines, wheel cylinders, etc... having the car raised up would make checking for leaks much easier.

What are your thoughts on running the car on the stands?

Just a heads up. When I put my car on jackstands with the front suspension hanging for several months, the upper control arm conical rubber bumpers flattened and split apart. If you are replacing them, it's no big deal. Otherwise, you may want to put a wooden block under the upper control arm to prevent this from happening.

Good info. Thanks. I just replaced them and will look into using a wood block to avoid flattening the new set.

I have started my car on stands.  No issues.

I and others have also done the hydroboost install so any questions fire away.

are you using a kit?

avatar_Cudajason @Cudajason - thanks for confirming you have started your car while on jack stands. That will help my Hydro-Boost installation.

I started a thread on my kit installation a while back: Hydro Brake Conversion Kit Experiences

I ended up buying the complete kit from Hydratech. This was over 1 year ago! I waited about 4-1/2 months for delivery. By that time I had other things going on and couldn't get back to it until now.

I see you have some experience ;-), so thanks for the offer!

And for anyone with the skills/time to do a "build your own' Hydro Boost kit, definitely read this post from Cudajason: Hydro Boost Project

Thanks everyone!
