Some People just SUCK

I've had "out of state VIN inspections" done at my local DMV a few times.  It's a pain, go into the DMV office, pay them money so they can walk out and verify the vin,  sign a form, go back inside but across the hall to the title office to do your title work.  Then, walk back across the hall with new title, into the DMV office to get your plates.

I highly doubt the 'inspector' would know anything about VIN rivets.  All they do is write down the vin #, write down the odometer reading, and sign the form.

It's strange that other states go as far as stealing a car from the owner "because VIN suspicious"

Wow. Some people are odd. Was just thinking that last night. I recall needing something for my car back in the late 80's. I forgot what, but I was explaining to the guy that my challenger had a cable for the throttle. He then challenged me and said he's been working on mopars for decades and they don't use cable but linkage rods. We go back and forth a few rounds then I'm like, whatever, fine, It has a linkage. Can I have my part? LOL. It's not common to meet people like that, but it occurs once in a while.

I am not big on a lot of repops of certain stuff. I am not a fan of number related things. To me, a car having all the original parts is a special car. People putting number matching stuff including belts and hoses on a car that didn't have them seems to be a situation where some poor bloke can get ripped off thinking the car is more original than it is. I  don't want that to happen to me. Not that I have that kind of cash anyways though. But some of these restorers are that good. It is hard to tell what is a true original vs restored. On the flipside, I understand why people do it. And I don't begrudge them. But the VIN is probably not a good thing to have redone.

As for the vin tag rivets, I had to redo my dash and sent it to Just Dash, but I didn't want to send the Vin with it so I removed it. I didn't realize it would be a big deal to replace. it. I almost put on a normal pop rivet but found a place selling them for less than a fortune (still way friken more than a pop rivet should cost). My Car has been non-op for 30 years, so I might have to go through that experience soon. From what I hear in Califiornia it isn't too bad. I've also read something here that if you have AAA, you can go there and they really don't care.

My thoughts . . . I have sold both new and used parts on this forum as well as some others.  I have also sold parts at swap meets, taken parts to another buyer to purchase and have even sold parts out of my home.  I try to always make myself available to answer any questions to the best of my ability and provide detailed pictures of what I am offering.  I typically even offer to take any specific pictures of any area of the part that I have for sale if the buyer needs it.  In my experience, if the buyer says, "Call me . . .", I just move on.  If you can't obtain the information that you are looking for from the detailed pictures provided then you should probably just come and check the part out in person and we can chat then.

Hi enthusiasts, Slant6 Al here, I have sold many parts on this forum and others to be sure over the past several years. The parts I sell are usually in really nice condition. I do my best to clean and or detail these 50 year old OE  parts to the best I can to rid the dirty filthy look. I've dealt with a lot of you already and have had no problems or difficulties what to speak of. I check the parts and Google search info on them to make sure the application is sound. As for calling say on the phone and talking about the part in question I'm an old school type person and have had many cordial conversations on the phone, and have many return calls just to chat about Mopar so I've made many friends from all over. You out there know who you are. Guys like Barry W. are to me highly thought of, it was he who had kind wishes and thoughts when my Mother was ill  just before she passed. So thank you Barry, this was very appreciated. So not only sending parts to good homes but the Mopar comrade ride is well received. Thanks guys this old guy can also appreciate you all.     Al

My vin isn't even riveted to the dash. I forgot to put it back on the dash before installation...so....it is held in place by a daub of adhesive on the back. Probably look suspicious to an inspector. It is the car's original vin plate though.

Yup, some people SUCK - big time! Couldn't agree with you more.

I sell car & non-car related stuff locally on a thing called Kijiji up here. Can't tell you how many fake inquires, time wasters, belligerent, etc people I've had reply to my ads. They are "affectionately" called KIJIDIOTS. Sometimes I wonder if it's even worth the trouble.

I haven't had too many issues over the years selling parts and such online.  I've sold a few parts here and members here I've sold to have been a pleasure to deal with!  :bigthumb:  Same with Moparts.
I have grown more and more jaded about trying to sell cars though. I won't rehash the years I have been trying to sell my '71 again, but I will say between getting few responses, foreign scammers and tire kickers who insist on getting more pictures then ghost you after you put in the time, I am about out of patience.
I'm not sure how professional dealers and flippers do it?
I need to figure out how to get a large storage facility, then even if I tire of a car, I can just stick it in the corner with a cover on it forever rather than deal with the BS of dealing with flakes and never eventually finding a buyer for the hassle.

When I was selling parts regularly, the vast majority of people were okay to deal with.  I still recall early in my efforts on this of hearing a sob story about a guy needing restoration parts for his project that was his Dad's and how tough it was to do it and cutting him a deal on some stuff only to be surprised when later that day a different buyer came by my booth with the exact same parts I cut a deal on to someone else earlier that day. After that, I  figured there are those people out there willing to say anything to make their bones off your sympathy, so I quite cutting deals.  There was always that one buyer no mater where I went that that had the potential to be "that guy".

I had a similar situation with that former Graveyard Cars guy over some seatbelts..   

He took forever to get back to me about them, I had to settle for a cheap "driver condition" set so I could just be able to drive it and get it inspected for my insurance..

He finally gets back to me, I told him I had to jump on another set due to time constraints and he went on about, Mine would have been WAYYYY cheaper than you paid for yours and in perfect condition, he then asked me what I paid for the others, I said I was still interested in his, but he wouldn't get over on asking what I paid for the ones I got.. 

He never told me what he wanted for them, I said I was still interested, just playing games, told him to pound sand..     
I can see now why he got fired..

Well, you are right about that. I had a guy call me about a car I had for sale. Selling 1 for space for another. The calls and wants to see the car. I had to change work plans and personal time to meet him. He drives at least 3 hours to look at the car. Walks around it for at least 15 minutes, drove the car and said it was" great". Said he wanted the car. I said ok, we negotiated for another 5 to 10 minutes and I included some extra stuff. We had a deal. Told me he would be back with the check in two days. Last time I saw him he was pulling out of the driveway waving.  :wave: What a guy!
