Horribly overpriced or a bargain?  My local Dodge dealer has about 10 of the new electric chargers on the lot for sale.   These arrived before the 25% Canadian tariff went into affect and its a good thing because with a couple of packages they all run around $70 sticker (plus $900 dealer documentation fee). 

I can not afford that...  especially when Cadillac electric Suv's are around that . 

However each and every one of them are offering between $8,000 to $15,000 combined dealer and Stellantis discounts.  That brings them down into the mid 50's price range.  And while they are too big and heavy to compete with the high performance Mustangs on a track,  they are a super fast, great great looking large boulevard cruiser.   Beautiful inside and out.  I stopped to look at one and its gorgeous.. 

So Horribly overpriced or a bargain?  Soon i guess the price will go up with the tariffs...thanks orange asshole!

The only ones I've seen so far have been at dealers.  I wonder if they'll end up being like Hornets, a car you never see on the road?
I thought the car looks a little better in person than in pictures I'd seen.
It looks really wide though.  I'm getting tired of how portly cars and SUVs have become.  The get harder to park and maneuver in my driveway and garage due to size.
It's looking to me that the main market for EVs has become the high end status symbol types, and they mostly buy Teslas, Rivians and whatever that Cadillac is, Evoc or whatever.  The more blue collar and middle class car buyer isn't very interested.  So Dodge isn't going to have much market for EV I don't think.
It'll be interesting to see if they sell well when they put ICE engines in them soon.

I'm pretty much do not care about electrics, other than they should compete in the fair market without government incentives and tax breaks.  If necessary I'd rather have a hybrid or the type that has an electric drivetrain but with an internal combustion engine/generator so you don't have to worry about charging on long trips if a pure gasoline model ends up not becoming available.

I would never buy a first year of any vehicle, especially a *new* unproven EV design and even more so because it's Dodge and the last CEO was cutting corners, a recipe for expensive fixes and lots of potential downtime considering the future state of parts sourcing thanks to the current administrations actions.

The i6 Hurricane on the other hand might be a more interesting prospect. But considering where they are built, the tariffs might just throttle it to death too

  Doubt I would buy any EV or really expensive ICE model but may some day lease one. The way these things depreciate and the expense of long term ownership scares me..
  I've watched my Mom's last two Benz's get to lower value than a Camry within 10-yrs after paying what I believe to be ridiculous repair/maintenance costs.

I'm 100% there, especially since Covid pricing and massive dealer markups became the norm. My $$ is better spent finishing the restoration of my Barracuda and driving the wheels off it and it still won't lose value

Its going to take a while for the company to overcome the incredible damage Tavares did while he was CEO.  He didn't care about the American brands at all, and in fact was benefiting financially from the ruinous cost cutting, going to the cheapest possible suppliers without caring about quality.  Stellantis did not understand the American car market, and Tavares simply didn't care about the impact.

So we'll see.  Maybe the new car will grow into being a pretty good one.

There are a lot of stories online about Hurricane engine problems too... its not just the EVs.  And the Hornets (mostly rebadged Alfas) don't look so great either and are barely selling.

Same here, just retired this month. No way I'll ever buy a new car again.  My 06 Mustang is still going strong, and the old Challenger is going to be driven.

I retired on disability 3-4 years ago but even when I was working and making what I considered "good" money for a blue collar job I couldn`t afford it. While I would love to have a nice new Charger or Challenger as a toy I`m just as happy with my Barracuda and road runner (when it`s done) as good weather drivers.

I never want to say never, as things change over the years.  I never bought a new car, just used, until the new Challengers came out.  I'd thought since the late 70s when I first got my license and bought a "vintage" then 8 year old Challenger, how cool it would have been to be able to walk into a dealer and buy one brand new optioned just how I liked! So the new Challengers seemed like an answer to that long held dream, as I bought a 2009 B5 manual trans Challenger off the showroom floor with 8 miles on the clock! It was a dream come true.
Since then I've bought a couple more new cars, one, my '21 Ram, I ordered exactly what I wanted, and when it got delivered my name was on the window sticker.
Having a new car with warranty certainly gives a degree of comfort too.  I'm just not inclined to be out in the driveway in winter changing a radiator or rusted trans cooler line or similar like I did on several occasions when I was 30!
My issue now isn't whether I can afford it or will just drive a 55 year old car as a daily, or even tariffs. It's that things got screwed up in the car market there's little to nothing new I get excited about, or would sacrifice to buy, even at half price!
By and large the big 3 hardly even sell cars anymore, just trucks and SUVs.
I certainly don't have any interest in an EV and doubt I ever will.
When I decided to buy a new truck I realized this might be my last truck.  If I keep it 10-12 years, it very well will be.
I have a Dart I bought new in 14 that at this point with >130K miles "doesn't owe me anything" after 11 years of pretty reliable service.  My 91 year old mom has trouble getting in and out of it when I drive her somewhere, and I've talked of buying a little SUV to replace the Dart. She stopped driving last year after totaling her car and even offered me her insurance money for her totaled Fusion to help pay for an SUV.  But I haven't gotten any motivation to do that given how boring cars on the market are now!
The time when cars one could get passionate about seems gone.  It was nice while it lasted and I'm glad I got to enjoy it!

I'm in the same boat, never had a new car. Not complaining about it just have never been in the position to afford one. House and kids came first. I probably  could now but I'm so comfortable being debt free it wouldn't be worth the worry to me. Agreed other than the new Challengers can't say I've seen anything that would I would want that bad. Especially any electric car that will have a short service life and be crazy expensive. The tesla I drove once was impressive but it looked like it came from Ikea design aesthetics wise. What an ugly car!  I'd rather have another classic car than a new one. I have always dreamed of a Cobra Daytona kit car but that's also out of reach for me. One can dream though.....

Over the years i have purchased several new cars.  My first new car was a 70 Challenger with 225 slant six and 3 on the floor.  It had power steering, am radio, white walls and wheel covers and stickered for right around $3100.  Traded it in on a 72 Charger...loved both of them...then i traded the Charger in on a 75 Mustang fastback cause i wanted better gas mileage..it was worse...worthless piece of shit !!   

Next i bought a 78 Pontiac Grand Prix... loved that car and kept it until 87 and bought a Used 1984 Dodge Daytona Turbo..  wow i loved that one...it was great on gas and loved its turbo power and handling.   Have not bought any new cars since.   Right now im on my third Lebaron/Sebring/200 convertible.  Each one i bought relatively cheap and then sold years later for nearly what i had in it all private sales. 

Today im driving my 2012 Chrysler 200 convertible Limited that i bought three years ago for only $11,000 with only 38,700 miles on it...truely like new.  It has the Pentastar 3.6 liter 284 hp V6 and 6 speed auto with as much power as ill ever need and good fuel economy.   Ill bet with the new tariffs going in and no new convertibles other than the overpriced mustang, its value will only go up. 

Still...man that new Charger is gorgeous and id LOVE to own a powerful electric cruiser..

I just went on the Dodge website to check out the Charger and I was shocked to see this.  This is all the models they offer now? 

Then I went to the Chrysler website and found the same thing.   

I've never owned a new car.  Would rather save a good $ ten grand and buy something with a few miles on it that's still like new, but, I digress. 

The topic was.... Is the Charger overpriced?  I think everything is overpriced these days.  And, realistically, I don't think any EV is a vehicle you can drive into the ground for the next 20 + years simply because after awhile, the batteries lose their ability to charge, and replacing them is very very costly.  But on the other hand, EV's supposedly take less $ to maintain, so, if you're saving money each year on the maintenance costs, and put that money away in a sock drawer for the day that you will have to replace the batteries, (and the rest of the car is still in good condition) then maybe it makes sense. 

Or, you buy it, drive it for a few years and sell it before you have to replace the batteries, and hope that you didn't lose a ton of money on the depreciation. shrug


I think the Charger is kinda cool looking but at the same time, I think the placement of the body seams in the front are not very pleasing to the eye.  At least that's what grabs my attention.

Well, he said yesterday he could care less if foreign car prices go up. What's a foreign car nowadays? Is there any country that sources and build everything in a car? I don't think so.
But...I'm hopeful trade people from all three NA countries get together in a room and discuss their differences rationally and logically like they did in 2018. I think something better than what is on the airwaves at the moment will be the end result.
