I have sold alot on ebay in the past years.  One thing I have learned is if there is a hold on money don't ship anything.  The hold comes off first thenI ship.  If it's a paypal thing then go get a money order and send it to me.  If someone returns something and it's opened they don't get their full payment back.  I also always put in the auction that all sales are final.  I would ship the intake back to the guy and not refund his money.  It's his problem now.

I have been buying/selling on E-Bay since it opened up. I have had some bad experiences along with tons of good ones.
Living out here in the sticks like I do - it opens up a market I would not otherwise have access to and has helped make me some money over the years.
Each transaction is still a learning curve.

I just sold a 70 Mach 1 to a guy in Germany recently. More than doubled my money on the car after losing about a grand on the shipping end of it.
He did everything right right up to the end of the transaction then asked for me to build a box to ship some extra parts in.
Parts and labor had about a thousand in it and he never sent the money - shocker.
FYI - beware if you make a sale to Dieter Grimm of Bad Tolz, Germany.   :stop:

Agreed with the others - he opened it, its his item.
Send it back to him and say sorry. If he dings you on feedback - its not a big deal in the long run.
You can post a response to his feedback and nobody will pay any attention to a single bad review.

Surprising he didn't say that he received an empty box and kept it and asked for refund. That's my favorite one. Both e-bag and payhag are completely for the buyer and with fees going up it's really not worth the hassle.

Too many scumbags and not enough stand up folks selling stuff anymore.

I'd sweep the money out of your paypal and send it back to him since he opened it. Hopefully he didn't swap his POS parts for yours.  :bricks:

I'm pretty mad about it .  .  I feel in my gut something is not right.  If he had one already, why open mine?  Sat with a buddy tonight having a beer and neither one of us could come up with a reason why to open it that was honest.  Only good thing is I still have his money.

Waiting for a response as to why he opened it .. if I get nothing, I may fight it.  Send the part back to him and say "this is yours" . . Thanks for purchasing . . . Still cost me money though ...

i have sold car parts on e bay on occasion. I got to the point of better defining how returns are facilitated by any of my buyers.
I either checked no returns and made all sales final or clarified that items must be returned as shipped. otherwise you bought it.
At least this provides some protection for sellers.

I have no idea if it is mine or not?  My box was unopened, brand new.

I'm now in Canada for a wedding . . Still pissed about this.  The only reason I put it up on eBay was I had a credit in my account for 10 bucks, been there for like 6 years, figured I could finally use that, get rid of a Ford part I will NEVER use and make some beer money.  Never again . . Now I have a headache and a problem I don't need.

Next how do I pull the money from the PayPal account?  Typically I would just buy stuff and pay with that until it s gone . . . I have a credit card attached to the account but no bank account?   Will they issue a check?  Want to pull that before I start a pissed off with buyer report.

Been about 24 hours since I asked why he opened it . . . Got nothing back.
Drive it like you stole it . . . And they're CHASING you!

Link it to a bank account / transfer the funds/ unlink it a day or two later

Sorry to hear about your frustration with ebay and paypal.

What's the alternative to get the maximum exposure for something that you want to sell?

I use to use Craigslist a lot ... but seems like it has gone downhill fast with a couple of tragic horror stories thrown in for emphasis.

Facebook marketplace? I'm just starting to dabble with it a bit but not enough to judge it yet.

What else is there??
Cheers!

Why not send the money to one of your buddies on here who has PayPal as a gift.
They can cut you a check and send it to you. Remember to remove the credit card linked to the account.

:iagree: Then you wouldn't need to link an account on PayPal.

I have a Paypal account if I can help in any way?

When I was retailing back in the early '00s, ebay was a great tool. They slowly raised rates and fees until I had to abandoned them entirely. They were simply eroding my margins, which were already thin, to a point that some parts were becoming a net zero gain.
