I'm thinking of FINALLY building a shop in the back yard maybe this summer. I was researching lighting and came across these? Thoughts?  :dunno:

I haven't seen that particular brand.  But I've been in warehouses that have led setups and they've been bright.  Those say there 26,000 lumens which should be pretty intense. I also like that it says 120/240 capability.  Not sure how they'll take the cold if you don't have heat.

I thought of the cold also. I asked the E-Bay seller how they perform in cold weather. I'll post back his answer when he replies.

Cold should have no effect on the LEDs. I have a few fixtures with the T-8 style retrofit lamps and they come on full brightness in the cold. It was 8 degrees this morning in Iowa and those came on bright while the rest of the T-8 fluorescent lights were fighting to warm up.

I bought 10 of these, instant on and twice as much light as my old 8' HO fluorescents and 1/10 the power usage. I already had the power run, just had to add a couple outlets. They are instant on, even with the minus temps we are experiencing here in WA State. Best light I have seen, and I have installed thousands of lights in my lifetime. Not sure how they will hold up, as they are still quite new to the industry.

Looks at the description again says -4 degrees. I suppose that's probally Fahrenheit so that like -20c

If you are used to florescent lights, you will love the LEDs, I am in the process of converting my whole shop to LEDs, including all of the paint booth lights. The difference is amazing. Unfortunately my shop is large & I believe I have about 30 8 ft T12 style fixtures, so the changeover is quite expensive. I am using the 36 watt 6500k lumens clear bulbs in the main part of the building & the 48 watt 6500k lumens clear bulbs in the booth.
Also anybody that already has florescent fixtures up, all you have to do to convert is remove the balast & reconnect the wires. The LEDs do NOT work with the balasts.

These look like the ones I see on the way to town, the light coming out of his garage is BRIGHT. I have talked to him and he said their a bit too much I guess better too much than too little. Wonder if you could leave a bulb out.

Is it possible to be too bright? Can't say I've ever considered that?  Another question.... how to you figure out how many you will need? shop is going to be 26x34, so 6 or 8 fixtures?  :dunno:

Thanks everyone for the replies! Great to hear from peoples experiences!

My wife wanted new lights in her wash room, I bought one of these and they are very bright. Its not a enclosed room so it worked out fine.

I read ( and was mentioned above) that these bulbs can be retrofitted into older fixtures by removing the ballasts , so as long as you have a standard size I would say yes.

It depends on what lamps you buy weather or not a ballast is needed for LED lights. There are lamps that you remove the ballast and put 120v on one end of the socket. There are others where if your fixture already has an electronic ballast for t-8 fluorescent lamps the new lamps are a simple swap out.

If you have the old 4' T-12 style lamps with the 2 pin socket the lamps will fit right in but the ballast would need to be changed to the T-8 electronic and the 2 wires at the socket connected together when wiring to the ballast wire.

Thanks...I'm going to look into that....when I'm not so busy... :thankyou:
