What do you think of these shop lights?

LEDs are definitely the way to go.  The positive cost savings(payback) generally happens in a short time period, but depends on how much you use them.  Installing fixtures is easy due to the simple wiring and the same applies to retrofitting existing fixtures.

In some cases, they can be too bright.  Try installing a dimmer switch.  Not all LEDs are dimmable so. check that out up front when purchasing.  If a dimmer switch is not an option, there is a smoke colored tubeguard that can be installed over the lamp.

There is also a simple "plug and play" LED that can be installed instantly without any modifications to your existing wiring/ballast.  These are simple, but the your cost savings will be slightly reduced since your still running the ballast.  It's minimal and normally no big deal to most.  Your call.

I will add a couple of things to my previous post on page one. My 8 foot T12s are single pole ends. I bought my LED bulbs from 2 different sellers on Ebay. Both companies noted that the ballasts must be removed from my original T12 fixtures. I am not sure why you would want to keep a ballast in? Also the comment about too much light. As a painter & a builder....Never enough light unless it is pointed in your eyes! LOL

I'm thinking of FINALLY building a shop in the back yard maybe this summer. I was researching lighting and came across these? Thoughts?  :dunno:

I just bought one to try out. I'll post back when it arrives.....

:please: Let me know how they work.  I would love to add some more lights and the cost to run LED's has me excited.  Want to hear what you think about how bright they are?

Will do.... I'll replace one of the fluorescent fixtures in my garage now  to compare. I expect it will be a couple weeks to a month till it gets here though. I'm curious as to how they will perform in the cold as I don't have heat in my garage now.

You will love the fact that there is no warm up time like your old ones! On is on when it comes to LEDs' no matter the temp!

Looking forward to seeing the comparison.  :bradsthumb:
And as mentioned, the cold won't be a factor.
I use thousands of LEDs for my Christmas animated light display and they have to go on and off at the precise timing I sequenced to the music. Outside Temp is not a factor.

They arrived about an hour ago, so I wasted no time in trying them out. MUCH brighter I'll say that. The instant on in the cold is nice too!  First  three pictures are before.... last 4 are the new LEDs from E-bay . I would imagine if the roof was taller the difference would be more dramatic?

I'm jealous!!!!  I want LED lights so bad.  Cheaper to run and brighter!  What's not to love.

I spy some cool tools!!!   ;)

Thanks, I REALLY need a bigger space to work in. I sure hope the new shop becomes a reality this summer?

Nice and bright, you could preform surgery in there. That's a cozy work space, I have the same size too and I feel your pain.

:D  But I'm really Jonesing for another car ( 71 Javelin), and to do that I'll first need more room to put it. I'm planning a 25x35 detached garage so that will include a hoist, room for 3 cars plus my machining equipment, then the garage I'll actually be able to put 2 cars in.  ;)
There is a method to my madness!

Ive been toying with building a garage as well. The biggest bylaw will let me build is 25x30 750sq ft I want at least 1000sq ft but it's been put on hold due to I had to spend the funds set aside for it.  What type of building are you planing on.  I was looking into steel but every dealer I talked to seemed sketchy.
