Winter Projects

Alright folks, winter, what ever that means for you is setting in, so for those of us in the north that means a solid 5 or more months to get some work done on the cars.

What have you guys got planned / hoping to do this winter?

For me, after spending all winter and summer on my OD trans project, I am going to try very hard to keep the car together this winter.

I do need to fix the turn downs on my mufflers, and maybe shorten the drivers side head pipe and weld in some O2 bungs.

I may wire up some relays for the headlights.

Other then that, I am saving up for adjustable strut rods and adjustable shocks all around.

Like I said nothing major.   :D

I am going to do the ammeter bypass as well as the headlight relay upgrade very soon.

Also debating about new seat covers and new foam as well. Hopefully someone will have a large Xmas sale and I can save some $$$.

Ah: Hickory flooring on the main level, change the rock around the fireplace, enlarge kitchen island etc. Not sure if I will have time to put a 64 Sport Fury Convt. together for a friend or not.

Challenger - Put light tubes in the dash, tighten exhaust tips so they don't go cockeyed, try to get windshield trim to sit down flat, clean up engine bay

Charger - Replace exhaust tips with the correct ones, solve some electrical gremlins, find the correct black treatment to touch up dash bezels, figure out why speedometer is not working.
Also debating replacing aluminum intake with the original one so I can go back to the original hood. Current intake is an Eddy RPM and the air filter is four inches high so the hood has a big scoop on it. I think I like the look of the original hood better but to use it I either need to use a lower intake or a smaller filter. Not sure if just a smaller filter will get me low enough.

Keeping it simple this year. New carpeting. Put the sunvisors back in after removing them three years ago. Might change out the steering wheel to something similar to screamindriver's.
But absolutely nothing that can go long and interrupt getting it out in the spring.  :burnout:

I think a Holley Street Dominator manifold is in your future to replace the eddy.

@dodj I want to get ahold of Edelbrock and check with them. When I bought the car it had an Eddy top end, cam, heads, intake and carb. I think they should be able to give me some guidance here. Is the Holley intake shallower than the Edelbrock intake? How much performance would I lose if I go to a 2.5" air filter?

I have both manifolds. The Holley is installed but could probably get you a height difference measurement. The Holley performs better IMO.

  • Disconnect ammeter
  • Fix reverse lights so reverse camera auto switches
  • New repro exhaust tips
  • Replace a torn window trim piece
  • Repair/Replace radio/speakers

Get off my arse and get the car torn down again so as to finish the rest of the block sanding, re-assemble it, fit it, final prep and get it sprayed, finally. Please God! There's also the beginnings of a 408 stroker in the corner, but let's not push our luck, shall we?   :fingerscrossed:

I'm house downsizing getting ready for retiring in the next 8 years.  I'm sure the honey do list will begin all over again.  The hard part is going from a 3 car garage to a 2 car garage.  Mine is set up perfect.  The even harder part is that I live in south Florida and there is no storage space anywhere in the houses down here.  :headbang: My wife hates that all the beds have car parts under every bed.  Any spare space she thinks she has there is a car part.  Wish me luck.

 I need to finish the assembly of the 74 Charger so I can install a 4 post lift this winter. Test fitting front and rear bumpers, etc.

Look at your air cleaner base and see where it sits on the carb.  Some bases are raised, some are flush and some are dropped.  If the area that sits on the carb is flush with the bottom of the air cleaner, you can install a dropped base to give you more room.  That coupled with a shorter filter might give you enough clearance for the stock hood.  I'd be looking into that before I spent good money on a new intake.
