I would like to have a great turn out this year from all the members . . . I will rent a tent once again and we can share it with both sites!  Cody needs a banner to display though!   :D

Lets keep the tradition of getting the all the forum members together.  @4cruzin (http://forum.e-bodies.org/index.php?action=profile;u=11) you serious about getting a tent?  I can come up with a banner and maybe a few other things.  But I would need to ship some of those items to someone if I end up flying out.  I know if the past it's been a couple different hotels used, but some of the greatest memories of Carlisle is just hanging out in the parking lot.  Do we have a preferred Hotel we want to use?

Regardless if I go or not, my wife might fly out just to get a hug from Alan!  I better go to keep an eye on her.

Yes I always rent a tent for the members.  Will try to get a larger one this year. . . . You can ship things to me if you want.  As for hotel, a lot of us have stayed at the Quality Inn located in New Cumberland but there is a new Holiday Inn Express right across the street and a Fairfield nxt to that hotel.

If we can decide on one or two Hotels that we prefer I will work on getting us a group discount.   :fingerscrossed:

Not sure about this year unfortunately.  I could have a great opportunity to relocate.  If it does happen I would be moving in June so not sure I could turn around a go to Carlisle.

I was on a 120 day detail to help out an office in Florida the last 4 months. I apparently impressed them and they might look into a promotion for me to go down there. Depending on what they can put together in a package, it could be really good. Mostly, my son is really into golf and wants to go play for a college if not try to get into that profession so being to give him a chance to improve year round would be a goal of mine.

I like the idea of staying at a hotel with a group from here, but I've been going to the same place for over 20 years and I'm really happy with the location. I really don't spend much time around the hotel anyways....Usually not back from dinner until around 10PM and to wiped to do anything but go to bed...we're on the show field every day before 7AM so it makes for a long day.

Well I think that is the plan . . . The parking lot we typically stay in is located behind the Quality Inn, right in front of the Fairfield and across the street from the Holiday INN Express!  The Quality Inn charges $70-110 depending on when you book, the Holiday Inn express is about $ 110 to 130 and the Fairfield in $140 - 160 a night. This gives members the choice of what they are comfortable with.  I will probably stay at the Holiday Inn as it is a new hotel and the Quality Inn although cheaper, was just a little too run down for me last year . . .

I would choose the Holiday Inn Express. Usually okay including a rudimentary breakfast. I have some points with HI too. Might stay for free.  :veryexcited:

I believe this is the Holiday Inn hotel you recommended, @4cruzin (http://forum.e-bodies.org/index.php?action=profile;u=11) :
https://www.ihg.com/holidayinnexpress/hotels/us/en/carlisle/harex/hoteldetail?cm_mmc=GoogleMaps-_-EX-_-USA-_-HAREX

Google maps says the show is less than 3 miles away! We'll (happily) stay there and  :toast: in the parking lot! How about I call tomorrow and see if we can't get a group rate?

Jeni, I don't think that is the right one as I know it is not located 3 miles away!  Staying that close to the show will be expensive and i like to try to give the members options with different price ranges.  The Holiday Inn is located in New Cumberland and is about a 20 min ride down the highway to the show. I know when we tried to get a block of rooms at the Quality Inn, they were charging us more than the rate you got when you just called and reserved a room.  Last year at the Holiday Inn, they still had rooms the day of the show . .

I think this is the right one . . . https://www.ihg.com/holidayinnexpress/hotels/us/en/new-cumberland/mdtcu/hoteldetail

Hey all, who certainly don't know who I am...

We're booked at the Holiday Inn Express 4Cruzin mentioned, just across the street from the Quality Inn.  The Quality Inn is a tad more "dive-ish", but is cheaper than any place I've ever found.  A few CC.C members have had incredible luck over the years getting very cheap places near the fairgrounds, but every time I call, I can never secure the same rate.

Cody, I finally gave up a few years ago trying to do blocks of rooms and/or securing group rates.  It was the year that I secured a group rate for everyone, and then found out everyone went and booked online through the hotel's website and got a MUCH better rate than the same hotel had given me...

ALL of the hotels in the area have calendars literally taped to their countertops with ALL of the Carlisle events dates highlighted.  You just stroll in and mention a weekend, and the first thing they do is go to that calendar, see the highlight, and go, "Oh - yes, that weekend..." and then give you a massive price-hike.  I've watched them do it!!

Even though none of you have met me before, I'll be providing lunch as always on that Saturday.  This year it's chicken cheesesteaks and that's already final.  :)  I haven't made those in a few years and I've recently improved my recipe.  :)  There might also be homebrew yet again, and with a few more gold medals under my belt lately, I can probably say with confidence that "it'll be pretty good..."

Also, I suspect Phukker Wither Mead to make a return (RIP Andy!) and perhaps in a sorta special way...

ALSO, I'm working on a surprise for Saturday dinner, but I'm not giving out any details yet as I kinda suspect it's going to be way too pricey for me to pull off...  But stay tuned - I've begun making some calls.

If anyone has questions on the area, just tag me - this will be our 10th consecutive year at Carlisle, and we're very excited...

...not that any of you have ever seen me there before...   :vipermanhiding:

I am going to talk to Ed at Carlisle and see if we can get an oversized tent!  I think we should still tell everyone to submit their club name as cc.com as we will not be set up and the more we have there . . Could someone tell me a little more about how we earn a free tent?  Is it if we get 25 show cars entered?  I'm all for combining powers if Ross is good with it.  I'm very proud of our site we have all built and plan to show our pride with some cool banners, giveaways and sharing our passion about E-Bodies.  And the more E-Body lovers the better!!!!

We also have some sponsor funds available if we want to use some of those resources for our group at Carlisle?  Just a thought.

" Black Challenger friends?"  Thanks for the offer but can you imagine what been on the floor of a motel!  :o  haha  I have afew guys local that are going but last time I made plans with those guys they bailed on me hours before we were supposed to go. I'm a little " gun shy" of them in that regard now.  :tired:

Ahhh just got what you meant by black Challenger guys..... Maybe?

Nice set-up Alan.  :clapping:

I think I'll book a room Brad but if wheat harvest is early again I'll have to bail like I did last year. I think Ian is wanting to go and was going to check with his social convenor. Your welcome to ride with me if I go but I won't have a better idea until early June.

The Holiday  Inn Express across the street sounds like a plan for us as well, the other hotel was OK for me last year but if I bring the wife and kid I`ll pay a little more for a nicer room.

Yes, I had it about 4 years.  Put about 60,000 miles on it and sold it for more then I paid.  That doesn't happen very much with cars I buy.  Normally I lose a ton on them!  :crying:

We've got a Dodge truck too.  Plus a few other vehicles that don't get driven enough.  One of my favorites is my late fathers old Ranger.  He took really good care of it.  Always garaged and he kept it really clean.  Zero rust and about 250,000 miles.  Runs like new and looks like it has about 50,000.  When he parked it in the garage he didn't even shut the doors all the way so the hinge latches would not wear out.  He loved his little truck.  Now I don't want to get rid of it, but I'm also not driving it.

There are 3 hotels right next to each other . . . Fairfield Inn, Holiday Inn Express and the Budget Inn . . . We are all spread out in these 3 hotels.  I actually have a room at the budget Inn and the Holiday Inn . . . if my wife comes, we will stay at the Holiday Inn and if not, I will stay by myself at the Budget Inn and save $200 for the weekend.  I know my wife well enough that the Budget Inn is not an option for her . . . But wouldn't bother me at all . . .

Holiday Inn Express:

For sure.  Was thinking at first to sit it out this year ... with some drag events, Canada trip, and drag week and such to take it easy .... but life's short!  And looking at the attendance, we had to go!

Just not sure if we'll take Challenger or Barracuda.  that's if the Barracuda is streetin it by then ... better be. ...  :fingerscrossed:

but then if the parking nazis are out .. we wont be near tent with the barracuda.  I dont care about awards so maybe we can hide it behind y'alls e-bodies!

We are located in rows H and I in spots 136 through 143.  That is where the tent is located and we have a few additional spots that we put the used stuff out on and for parking.  I may have an additional space or two if someone is needing a spot.  These spots are next to building T, the large red barn and Mega Parts is right next door to us.  If you guys would like for me to check for some type of group buy in, let me know and I can check on pricing for a show special.  I am already looking at doing something with ACC Carpet.  Just let me know as July will be here before we know it.

Since this'll be my first year ever attending Carlisle (as a spectator) I have a question.

What's the drill for buying a Thur - Sun pass at the event? I'll be in a '70 Charger with two of my non-forum friends that already have tickets. Is it a simple matter of just hopping out of the car and going up to a booth like at the Nationals?

Yes...Gate 3. You can probably buy them on line before you go too :dunno:

I think you can buy it online and from what I remember they are pretty good and fast at getting things done at Carlisle.  I have never shown, but the back gate where I normally go in usually seems pretty easy to get in.  Plus I think they have a place you can go in and buy your tickets if you want to buy at the show.

I like the idea of buying someone's spare ticket, like a win win. What would be a fair price? I can Paypal a monetary "gift" to whoever. If the offer comes from the States it can be mailed to my Ohio buddies place, if it's from Ontario it can be mailed to my house.

How close to the event date do you guys get your tickets and would there be enough time to mail out the spare?

Thanks

To clarify, we don't get individual tickets when we register a car - we simply get to drive into the fairgrounds with up to 2 passengers.  So the best bet would be to find a place to park outside the fairgrounds (plenty of local residents sell space in their yard to park, or the fairgrounds has large areas visitor parking) and then meet up with someone who registered their car, and ride in with them.  It takes a little coordination, but totally doable.  :)

Hey Jeff, thanks for the clarification. I'm used to the Nationals way of doing things. With the info you gave me I'm leaning towards an on-line purchase. The two guys I'm going with will appreciate me simplifying things. Any chance of a Part 2 to ADOC.

Also, I suspect Phukker Wither Mead to make a return (RIP Andy!) and perhaps in a sorta special way...

Because it is Carlisle again I have been thinking a lot about Andy & Cathy & family
How many years now ? 2 right or is it 3 ?
We need to make sure they re doing OK  & get the car done but not just get the car done !

I can't believe it's been 3 years now. Andy was quite a guy!

My best memory is from 2012 on a Friday night from "Viperman land."  I don't think I ever laughed so hard in my life.  It was just me, Andy and Cathy, and Jeff(Viperman), and his wife Ashley. Great times with great people.   :)

Andy WAS a great guy and generous to a fault! We went to his place that weekend to try to get the Cuda moving and he died that Friday night. It was odd to me, as that's my sons birthdays and it was kinda Biblical, with one life ending on the day when others began, and that still feels sad to me. I, also, hope Cathy is doing well and that one day that fine Cuda rolls down the road and into the Carlisle gate with Andy's family behind the wheel.  :bye:

June 12th...  I remember that day so well - more so than I'd like to, sometimes...  I remember seeing Andy in his room - Cathy and their family gave me a few minutes alone to visit with him, but I didn't know what to say.  I just stood there, looking at him, looking around the room, feeling like I had no business standing there...

Then I looked across his bedroom to a small bookshelf built into the front wall, and I saw 4 bottles of my homebrewed beer from previous Carlisle shows.  I was speechless, but at that moment I realized that not only did I belong there, but I should've been there sooner.

I think I gave Andy a pat on his shoulder - he was sleeping and basically wasn't responsive at that point - and just told him that we were there for him, and we were going to help him finish his dream.

That day I met so much of Andy's family - I met his sons and his daughter Meghan, who actually lives within half an hour of us out here and whom we visit frequently.  My daughter loves Meghan.  I met some of Cathy's sisters and I seem to recall a sibling of Andy's.  Everyone seemed so... ...strong.  I mean, folks were laughing, Cathy was running around making food, getting drinks; just keeping herself busy, I imagined.  Every once in a while you'd see someone break down, and someone else would run over to hug them, to console them, and the coolest part of all, to give them a reason to laugh - an old story, a quick joke...  There was so much love in that house, and even though I only knew 2 people there, I remember being surprised at how welcomed I felt.  It was almost uncanny.

That night, I was in such a funk.  I stayed at SpikeDog's (Dave's) house.  I couldn't sleep, I couldn't find something to smile about, I was just so depressed.  That next morning when I came out of his guest room, Dave was sitting on the couch.  He told me Andy had passed away in the previous evening.  I just stood there for a moment.  Then, within 30 minutes, I was driving to Andy's house.

I remember getting there, and not really knowing what I was doing.  I mean, we were going to get Andy's car down, we were going to get it assembled, and get it running.  Except I had never done anything like that before.  While I knew a bit about cars and a little bit about 'Cudas, it was such a daunting task...  But I walked into his backyard, and the rotisserie had already been rolled out of the garage, people were everywhere, there were boxes of parts people had brought from all over the property, Dan Zimmerman and Murray and Biggs and Brad and Andy's son Doug - everyone was already engaged in the project.  Cathy was there too - getting tables & parts, getting drinks, setting up coolers, making food, helping people find boxes of parts or tools - and smiling, and laughing, and enjoying the company and the support and the friendship from these guys.  It was so incredibly inspiring - I setup my iPad to take pictures throughout the entire day (a clip was in my Carlisle video) and I just found something to work on.

A few times that day, I remember seeing Cathy and Meghan - I remember the smiles on their faces as tears rolled down their cheeks, watching Andy's car come together before their eyes.  Trim went on, suspension, wheels, the car touched the ground for the first time in years, the motor lifted into place...  Obviously they were hurting, but at that moment, we all gave them so much to be happy about.

Andy Knox was all heart.  He was all about family and friends, and if you were his friend, you knew it.  He made it a point to make sure you knew what you meant to him.  Personally I wish I had done more - I wish I had been more proactive in our friendship.  So many times he'd call me to tell me about a car for sale he found (that he thought I might like,) or a trinket or gift he'd bring us at Carlisle, or how he'd call out of the blue to see how our daughter was doing.  He came to her first birthday, he coined the name "ViperMan Land" and made us a flag...  He was just incredible.

Today I try to treat his family like he treated me.  I try to keep in touch, I try to visit them whenever I'm around.  I've really enjoyed getting to know Meghan and Doug, especially.  Their other son really keeps to himself, but every year I look forward to Cathy and her crew showing up, and it never ceases to amaze me how positive she is.  She works harder than most people I know to keep her family afloat, but she's ALWAYS laughing and smiling and hugging and helping...

The Knox family is an inspiration, and though Andy is no longer with us, I feel like I'm a better person for having known him.

Yessir - sorry I didn't add your name!  I was trying to remember names off the top of my head and I couldn't remember them all.  :)  I still have a list stashed somewhere so that - if I ever finish the documentary movie about that weekend (I need them to get the car running!) - I can list everyone who was there.

Brought tears to my eyes . . . Nicely done!    I was one of the last members to see him up and around as he made a point to come to my birthday party which was a few days before he passed.  He sat in the corner of the back yard by the pool  . . . I think that was his last trip out of the house.  I few days later, he was gone.

Truly missed for sure!  Wish I knew then what I know now . . . He could still be with us.    :crying:

Oh hey Cody I forgot to answer this: Ashley and I keep in touch with her through Facebook very often.  We probably haven't seen her since late last year, but we got together with her and Meghan in Michigan when we were visiting Dave over Thanksgiving.  She was doing - as she always somehow manages to do - great.  Also as I mentioned, we hang out with Meghan a good bit down here in Dayton, and sometimes when Cathy comes down to visit, we make it a point to take them out to dinner.

Meghan is working at the apartment complex she lives at in the Dayton area.  Doug is working for Jolly Pumpkin Ales up in Michigan (lucky duck,) and I'm not entirely sure what their other son Greg is up to.  He unfortunately never showed any interest in the Mopar clubs.  I haven't even seen him since the weekend we worked on Andy's car.

Cathy I think is down to only one or two jobs - I'm a tad sketchy on the details, but I believe she works at an assisted care facility of some kind...  That or a school - I dunno, my memory sucks sometimes...  :)  I know she moved a little while after Andy passed - had to downsize a little, but I've never been to their new place.  I do know that the 'Cuda is safely stored in a garage.

Cathy recently purchased FIVE tickets to the Decade of Carlisle party, which puts her thoroughly in the lead...  :)  She hasn't missed a show since her and Andy started attending, which though I'm a little fuzzy on the year, I believe was 2011 or '12.  But I could be wrong on that one, too.  :)

Touching story there Jeff. I had a chance to talk to him before he passed. It was painful, sad and at the same time I was happy to be there for them. I remember so many stories, phone conversations, visits, jokes, pointless conversations, fatherly advice, and doing the swap meet with him and Cathy. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him as one of my greatest friends. He and Cathy always had a great attitude. I remember his wine very well. Still have a good bottle that I intend on bringing down with me one day. ;)
You know i'd love to go- (my brother lives about 20 minutes away), but with my recent surgery, it's a little doubtful. I would love nothing more than to sit down with you all and have a few beverages and regale you with my Andy stories.. lol. Hell, I might even draw some cars, lol

Hello, new E-Body owner and member on the forum, I've been to Carlisle a few times in the past. I can't wait to meet the people I've been chatting with through the forum and FB page. I have booked a room at the Holiday Inn Express, will probably need to bum a ride in the morning and evening to and from the fairgrounds. I guess there will be impromptu meets in the Hotel's parking lot at night so I can introduce myself, or maybe make arrangements before? Also, depending on if I have a passenger, I might have a spot available on a Hide-a-Bed in my room. Maybe start a thread with offers and requests for rides/rooms, etc... ?
Cheers!

Not this year, Alan, but it's getting closer. Charlie is already figuring the $$ it will take.

See you at Carlisle!

@Cuda Cody (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/cuda-cody_1) ...in case you haven't figured it out yet.....Since you rented a Challenger, it will be much cheaper to register the car for the show, both admission and parking wise. With a Challenger you'll be able to take it in the gate 24 hrs a day. :alan2cents:

Dang Alan, you're so smart....  I didn't even think about using the rental car to get in to the show.  Even worse, I purchased show tickets online and forgot to print and bring them.  :Thud: but we did get here in plenty of time to see a few sites.  Here's @J-Code Jeni (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/j-code-jeni_5)  at Gettysburg tonight.

I have three vending spots, but over the years I always entered my truck in the show as well so I could always get nice safe parking with all the other show vehicles and people to watch over it, unlike parking on the street and walking in.  :alan2cents:

If you go to the registration booth, they may credit you the admission and get you registered for the show with the challenger!  Last year I left my registration at home and had to get a replacement . . . they took care of it quickly and I was all set.

Trying to get packed up here in Michigan but storms coming in quickly . . . hope to load the car after they blow through . . .

OK. That's a base SXT with no frills. The color is Destroyer Gray that I haven't seen in the flesh yet. So, I will be checking out your rental.   :)  How do you like the feel of the 3.6 engine? If that car has a sport mode button on the lower dash, I would suggest pushing it. It makes the engine more responsive and feel like it's Mr. Bigstuff.   :D

I'm sorry! I'm sure that Ed's upset about it too. If anyone brings an extra canopy maybe you can attach them to the big tent.

Join us later today at the Carlisle Expo center right outside the fairgrounds for our free Kick-off to Carlisle Mopar show!
