I know it is early to start thinking about Carlisle 2019 but . . . had so much fun as always, the more members that go . . .  the better!       (I made the poll so you can change your vote!)

I actually had plane tickets, a rental car and a hotel laid on for this year. However my rental property had other plans for me. Two days before, on Wednesday the 11th, a part of the plumbing system took a dump on me.  :pullinghair:  I spent the better part of the Carlisle weekend in a nasty dark dank crawl-space making repairs instead of going to the show.  :help:  I hope to make it next year.  :handshake:

I was not planning to go this year but changed my mind at the last minute. I was not looking forward to the 11 hour drive to get there. I been going to other Carlisle shows for 25 years.
I had so much fun this year, I decided I will be going back in 2019.
Now If I can just find a good room for Thursday and Friday.

This brings up an interesting point.

Chris is pushing us to join him at the Park Inn. We've had our location in New Cumberland for years. The absolute positive is we always have that top parking lot to ourselves for the pizza party.

Any feedback is welcomed. We did deviate in 2013 to a more modern(expensive) place. We still found a way to have a party in the parking lot, and we outlasted those light weight Charger guys by a few hours.   :D

I REALLY recommend it. I've stayed there before. Great restaurant out front ( It was an Irish Pub)and a night club as well. Huge "party area " out back , even has a fire pit.  Huge pool etc....

They also have an indoor pool, there's about 3 outdoor bars with a beach volley ball court, corn Hole game, a 6 person beer pong table, and there was a full blown country band playing in the bar. There were also about 200 people scattered throughout the parking lots doing their own thing.  If you go online it is about $169/night but if you call and tell them you are with the show they will give you a rate of $120/night.

Can someone help me answer some questions.  I have never been to Carlisle.

Besides food, plane, and hotel costs, what should I expect to pay for attending?

1. Do I have to rent a car?  Is there plenty of parking at the event?

2. How much does it cost to enter? To park?

3. Do most ebodies.org folks stay at the Park Inn?  Is it close to the event?

4. Where do I fly into to?

5. What day should I fly in?  I was thinking of just attending for 2 days.

Thanks.

The event is growing on me.

If you can get to the hotel someone can provide transport to & from so no you do not have to rent a car .
maybe $20 for the weekend to enter but there is usually extra tickets
We have usually stayed in the same area , the Park hotel is a new location
You can fly into Phily or Baltimore , pittsburg or even smaller airports that are closer
The show starts Thursday & runs until sunday , Thurs - Sat are the best days

Since I fly in from California I'll give you my answers.

1.  It is best to rent a car at the airport.  There is plenty of parking near the event but get there early on Friday and Saturday for the closer spots.  Parking is $10.  On Thursday you usually can find free parking.

2.  It's $15 a day or you can a 4 day pass for $35.  You can get the pass at the gate.  Parking is $10

3.  I think help stay all over.  I stay in Harrisburg and it's about a 30 minute drive.

4.  Baltimore.  I've tried Washington DC, Philly and Baltimore and BWI is the easiest and usually most economical.

5.  If you are going for parts then fly in Wednesday night and go Thursday thru Saturday.  If you are going for cars then fly in Thursday night and go Friday and Saturday.

Keep in mind this is at least 10X the biggest Spring Fling you have ever been to if the weather is nice,  The weather is the wild card.

I was by the tent several times on Friday and early Saturday and kept missing you and Ashley (I did see Melanie a couple of times though). Dinner on Friday night was the only time I saw you guys. My wife had a work party on saturday night I had to get back for so I hit the road about 10am Saturday after a few more laps of the swaps. I'm also crazy busy at work and wasn't able to come down on Thursday this year so I was pretty rushed. Next year I'll be down Thursday again and hopefully be able to spend more time relaxing....

@nsmall (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/nsmall_145)  . . I know when CudaCody came in last year, they rented a new Challenger and registered for the show!   That is probably the best idea as when you add up cost to park and then registration for the show, I think it would be cheaper.  Plus then you are parked inside the show!   :clapping:

Anyone getting the itch yet?  It's only 356 days, 17 hours and 30 minutes away.  :D

I probably shouldn't say this but I found a great spot to park the first year I attended.  The first house to the left of the main gate was charging $10 to park.  Literally right outside the gate.  A lot of other people were paying more and having to walk a long ways to get in.

@nsmall (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/nsmall_145) you owe me a ride in your Cuda.  You need to find a way to get it to Pennsylvania.

Thanks everyone.  I will be Cudaless Darren, but I'll bring my wife.  Anytime you are in CA we will go cruising for sure.

I am very interested in attending.  Never been to the east coast.  Thanks again.

Oh, I remember reading about a bunch of toll roads.  How much should I expect to pay in tolls from Baltimore to Carlisle and back to the airport if I rent a car?

The only reason we missed it this year is we are moving to a new house the July 31st and there is lot`s of junk to move and all the other stuff to do. We definitely plan on going again in 2019, hopefully with the Barracuda if I can get it re-done from the fire in time.

I've been wanting to get there for years.  The 12 hour drive from the northwest suburbs of Chicago and difficulty finding traveling companions for the trek has always kept my plans from happening.
I have a real dilemma, not for 2019, but for 2020.  I've vowed to get my T/A out there for the 50th anniversary reunion.  I now have less than 2 years to either buy an enclosed trailer and a truck to pull it to transport my car, or get myself into a tax bracket such that I can pay Reliable to get it there and home without breaking the bank!  :notsure:

My friend Mopar Mitch here on the board who had his T/A rally race car there in 2005 has vowed to be there again in 2020 also, and he lives just a few miles away from me on the other side of town, so we've got 2 cars to go in that toter home if you get it!  ;)
We went to Road America yesterday to see the national vintage race, and I was admiring the Excursions many were using to tow their trailers there.  I've been threatening to buy a 2WD V10 Excursion to tow my trailer I need to buy, would I be a Mopar traitor if I buy an old Excursion as a budget trailer puller?  :dunno:

Those things are massive and the fuel economy is poor.  Plus I don't think they hold up very well.  Do you have a need for all that room?

There are plenty of 100K mile CTDs out here with zero rust.

I have a friend who is a long time diesel mechanic and he's strongly advised me to not buy a diesel unless I drive it almost daily (and buy fuel from high volume truck stops).
I'm looking for something reliable under $10Gs to tow, run errands and occasionally pick up large stuff.
The telescoping mirrors on Fords compared to dodges trailer mirrors are a big deal to me due to my driveway situation. And the Mopar automatic transmissions are crap.
I don't know that I'd be happy towing with a 5.7, and a couple people I've talked to over the years when I drive the MCACN shuttle back and forth from the trailer parking yard to the hall talked highly of their V10 Ford pickups for long haul towing their enclosed trailers, that is why I am interested in the V10.
I wish a vintage C body wagon was up to the job, I'd love to show up to Carlisle towing my T/A in a 24' enclosed behind a 69 Monaco wagon but I know that won't fly!

So no worries about algae growing in the diesel fuel if the fuel is in the tank for a month and the lift pumps hardly ever go bad and even if they do cost much less than $2500-$3000 to repair? Those are some of the myths my 35+ year head mechanic for a large fleet of trucks keeps feeding me.

I have a 99 CTD QC W2500 Long Bed 6 speed that I ordered in 99.  I have 233K miles on it and let it sit for a month at a time.

I buy my diesel at a station that sells a good volume.

Never had a problem with this.

My truck sits too much , so do some of my friends , algae can grow in Diesel , I keep the tank full & change the filters often , never had an issue , I have had 4 Cummins , I had to change the lift pump on one with 350,000 on it

The extra MPG all the time is well worth fixing the occaisional problem like a lift pump

We use Biobor for a long term storage additive. For preventing algae growth for 6 months storage or more, no issues. :alan2cents:

Best truck I ever had. I owned it since new though (10 years) and kept up on the maintenance. That's one problem with buying a used diesel, You don't know if it's maintained properly. A Cummins will pull your house down if it can get traction.

PLEASE!  Everyone remember to select E-Bodies.org as your club name when you register for your showfield tickets!  I went to the Detroit Autorama this year and saw Ed from the Carlisle show and discussed the group getting a larger tent and I believe that we have a deal for a double sized tent to allow our group more room to socialize!   I was told we have 19 members already registered which is great for this time of year!  AWESOME!

If you have never been to the show, the tent is our home base and allows you to leave a chair/cooler or anything else you want to leave!  There is pretty much always someone at the tent!  It will be located close to the same spot we had last year and easy to find with our banners hanging on the side!

Got the 2018 in the show this year and we are under the e-bodies.org club. We are just going to commute to and from the show this year. We are a little over an hour away so we are going to save on the room.

Speaking of saving, you only have a few days to save on registration prices.  :takemymoney:

This is always an exciting event for the group!  Our annual club meet at the best MOPAR show of the year!   If you have never been. this is the show you NEED to go to!  The club has a 20 x 40 tent at the show in the e-body area for all to enjoy!  Bring your chairs and cooler and leave it under the tent and have a place to relax out of the heat of the day!  Plus we will have a club lunch on Saturday and @ViperMan (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/viperman_88) typically brings a keg of fresh beer for all to enjoy!

Doesn't get any better than good friends, cool cars and fresh beer!

There is a chance that I am going to make it out there to pick up a cuda in New York.  Figured I would make the trip during carlisle so that I could stop by and check out the cars.
Anyone have suggestions on how to make this work?  I know the hotels will be filled up so I don't really have a plan.
Seat of my pants type of thing.
Is there parking for my truck with a cuda in tow?  How far will I have to go to find a hotel room?  Should I make it for more than one day?
I figure the swap meet is on Friday and that appears to be the best day.  For parts.  Thoughts?

I'm not sure how far you'll have to go to get a hotel at this point but I don't think it will be more then a 1/2 hour or so. I would say the best day for the swaps is Friday for sure.

If you're talking about MOTEL 6 next to the old Hoss.s it's not Motel 6 anymore. It's now American Inn.

Just saw over on Moparts that the Days Inn South in Carlisle has changed ownership and that previous reservations are no longer valid for this location.  So if you should have booked a room at this location, you might want to call direct to the location and verify the situation.  Would not be a pleasant situation arriving to find out that you do not have a place to stay.

Nice you can join us for the first time!

The fastest way to the show is, take the Pa. Turnpike heading West for 2 exits. The sign will say Carlisle on it. It's about 20 minutes away. Once you get off, head right on Rt. 11. From there, you just follow the traffic to the show. If you have your Challenger registered for the show, gate 3 is the big entryway. The club tent will not be not more than a few minutes walk from gate 3.

Will the car be on a trailer? If so, I can't help you there.

If you are driving the car, the E-Body area is straight ahead after entering gate 3. You will see maybe 6 porta potties on the left as you come to a bend in the road. The E-Bodies area is to the right after that bend. You just have to pay attention to what category you have your car registered under. All E-Bodies are within 2 or 3 rows there.  I hope this helps.

Anyone DRIVING their Hemi (not trailering) car there? If mine doesn't sell by then I'm packing the tent and dog in to the Hemi and taking the 300 mile trip. I'll leave in the night so I don't have to deal with the heat of the day. Maybe pick up some smokes, probably stop in Savahnas for a yoohoo.  P5:P8 I'll be there.

Leaving in the morning to take the 8 hour drive by myself . . Good thing I get to trailer the car and sit in the air conditioning . . Packing my sandwiches for the ride so I don't have to stop and get food.

Just want to get there . .  :cooldance:

I was planning on going but cant make it this year.  I was wondering if they would have a passengerside rear frame rail for a 68 charger and 70-74 cuda rear windshield

We flew in to DC yesterday and did a bunch of sightseeing.  Going to see a little more in the morning before getting on the road and heading to Carlisle mid day.  See you guys in less than 24 hours!

Yes sir! Along with you, Ian, Brad, Doug, JayBee, Jon, Adam and every other forum member from Ontario, all driving our cars in an e-body parade to Carlisle. I'm not joking guys, this idea was floated last year at Moparfest. Mark your calendar and have your car ready. Maybe Alan will have his own e-body by then and he'll join us.  :fingerscrossed:

Only if you want to. I brought my 69 Fastback up a few years ago and was welcomed by everyone with open arms. The Carlisle organizers had heartburn with me paring among my friends and tried to make me move the car. Dave and the others decided that since the tent was large and the spot was reserved and paid for by all of us - we parked my car under that tent for the duration of the event. More than one way to skin a cat. I will forever remember that gracious gesture.......

So, Neil calls me on Friday and says he is in town? Well almost in town .... about 40 minutes away? I was kinda shocked? Expected him to be partaking of all the festivities at Carlisle? Seems his buddy bailed on him last minute.  :Thud:

So my buddy Mike needed a hand tuning his old buggy and I said Hey are you in luck I know just the guy for the job, perfect timing!
(pardon the pun)
Life hands you lemons... make lemonade!  Or at least have fun helping out a buddy with this old ragged Plymouth. :D   Did that and managed to take in a local cruise night too, a 67? hemi Satellite , 69 Roadrunner and a few more Mopars  were in attendance, loved the cool old Dodge with the Cummins engine transplant!
