Title: Street Drag Radials: Feedback on how they hook up
Post by: Topcat on May 08, 2020, 09:50:12 PM
Considering getting 2 Street/Strip Drag Radials. 15 x 8 rim.
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/mnh-rod16

Wanted to hear experiences how well they hook'd up and lasted on streets.
M & H Street masters are just spinning on take off.

My take off's suck with them and rear end is fish tailing bad.
Not even going full stomp throttle.

I`ve raced with regular BFG`s and drag radial BFG`s. My Barracuda is only a low 13 second car but with a 4 spd and street suspension it is tough to hook, the drag radials are noticeably stickier, picked me up a few tenths but mainly made it more consistent. I never swapped them and just ran them on the street, lasted about 5000 miles but that is a fair amount of burnouts/track time.

Be careful if you plan on driving on the street with these. I had them on my 51 Dodge pick up and got caught in a rain storm going to a show and almost lost it . It was like driving on ice.

On my last drag car, I swapped the MT 28x10 Drag ETs for BFG G-Force 295/65 drag radials and had slightly better 60 foot times.  Never drove them on the street and sold it the next year so I can't compare total passes and wear.

One thing to remember, is that they are a lot harder on drivetrain components. With that said, I know where there is a pair just waiting for you... :veryexcited:

@floorit426 (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/floorit426_1567) has set me up to trial out a set of 255/60/15's on my car.

OMG I can't wait.   :burnout:

Going to do some timed runs, or just seat of the pants enjoyment?
Is your hemi stock TC?

Are you looking for red light to red light traction or burnout/prepped track traction input?

Yup, huge difference right there. My Cuda will blow my Hoosier 31 X 16.50 X 15 Quik Time Pro ET's off on the street. They hook HARD on a prepped track.

More of Red Light to Red Light.

Most of all, less ass end sliding around.

485 ci solid lifter. 10.25:1 All iron engine.
FAST class I guess you could say.

I tried them out last week-end and it definitely helped most noticably better in 2nd and 3rd gear.

Like I wrote earlier:

With a 4 speed, it's harder to sneak out hard without spinning tires.  :burnout:
Plus, I don't have a "bleach Box" conditioned track starting point to get a little more "grippy".

2nd and 3rd; it's great. Drop from 3rd to 2nd is way better as well.

All in all, much better control, less fishtail, better rear end traction, less feeling of car getting out from under you.

Mike, I'm not sure what tire pressure works best, so I put 24# in them. I can't remember what worked best, at the track. I think it was in that neighborhood, though. Anybody else have any idea?

The pattern looks reasonably similar to my NT05's (street tire not drag). Be careful if you get caught in the rain....

I'm really liking the improved traction these tire do.
Especially when the weather gets a little warmer; she bites down much harder.   :burnout:

So now I should look into getting splash shields.
A long time back, somebody said get little chromed splash shields and use those heavy duty Paper clips and clip them on the back.

Because rocks fly, and could hit the paint in the rear behind the tires.
This allows to put them on or off, as needed. Car shows   :perfect10:vs. Going out for a jaunt.   :stayinlane:

Any recommendations on doing this?

Any link on brands, look or what anyone did themselves.

I used fairly large bulldog paper clips on rubber flaps. On and off in seconds and they never fell off. Sticky tires sure kick up the pebbles alright.

I'm looking where to get black mud  flaps

Ended up with these. They'll work.

But the little black ones with Plymouth would be cool to have.
