18 spline 833

I have disassembled a 18 spline 833 to freshen up and was wondering when the side cover production changed in 70, the production date I have is 10-6-69.     This trans has the ball and detent cover. Which is the better cover?

does the transmission have a VIN on it?

I thought the AAR & T/A manual transmissions were the ONLY units to get the new side cover during the '70 model year - then all 4-speeds for 1971 used the new cover

I far prefer the ball detent cover to the lever type & I agree only the TA had the lever cover in 70 to my knowledge
