I have disassembled a 18 spline 833 to freshen up and was wondering when the side cover production changed in 70, the production date I have is 10-6-69.     This trans has the ball and detent cover. Which is the better cover?

does the transmission have a VIN on it?

I thought the AAR & T/A manual transmissions were the ONLY units to get the new side cover during the '70 model year - then all 4-speeds for 1971 used the new cover

I far prefer the ball detent cover to the lever type & I agree only the TA had the lever cover in 70 to my knowledge

6bbigt and chryco, Thank you both on the side cover information, that would make sense for the TA's and AAR's with a mid year production.

                   Thank You Again
