I have some ralley rims in rough shape, but totally fixable. The inside was rusted pretty good and made a good time trying to get the bead broken. Anyways I cleaned it up with a wire wheel and thinking I should paint the inside to prevent moister from causing more rust. Any thoughts on paint?

Also, my rims were painted black at some point in the 80's or possibly 70's. I always thought that was original but have learned that wasn't the case. Anyways, I kinda like the black rims contrasting the Yellow paint. My question is what paint was used originally and is it something you can restore easily? Or is it a special paint? The rims are 14", so probably not very valuable except to that one person that needs a set with that exact date code. LOL.

I thought they were dipped originally and the paint quality was a lot different than today's paints.  I would just use some good 2 part epoxy primer and a nice single stage paint.  That would hold up extremely well.

I blasted and powder coated mine.

Rallye wheels were originally painted an Argent Silver color. This is available in rattle cans and liquid form if you want to restore them to original color.

Depending on the seriousness of the effort (how much you want to spend), you could spray the interior with rust convertor and then sealer. I've had good results with the Eastwood system. Then top-coat everything in the color of your choice.

Awesome, Thanks all for the advice. These rims will be temporary until I save up enough for some new rims, probably 17" aluminum Ralley rims, or something. I will probably just use some rim paint out of a can with clear coat. The rust seemed to clean up pretty well so I may not need the rust converter.

Is argent a color or a type of paint? I assume it is a type of paint. Or at least always thought so. Good to know I can still get it in a can.

Yes and yes. Rallye Wheel argent is a metallic silver color with visible metallics. Light textured argent is a rough textured metallic silver color with darker color flecks in it. Dark textured argent is a darker, rough textured metallic grey color with lighter silver flecks in it.

Several companies offer the Rallye wheel argent, like Eastwood, Year One, etc. Otherwise, I've never seen it in a retail store. Textured argent I've only found in two places and one is now closed. The other is 8774Paint1. They also have Rallye wheel argent.

I had mine well matched, then blasted, then powder coated by a local shop that is phenomenal with quality. Zero regrets.
