He's over on Facebook all the time.
He gets more feedback and promotes his business so I can understand that.

Huh?
Is there a back story?
I was curious why he disappeared.

I didn't know there were still personality conflicts or whatever going on. I'm always pretty blind to those kind of issues I guess.

I was also wondering why you were not around much but figured it had lots to do with being in Panama and less 'plugged in' to cruise nights etc so maybe the car itch was waning?

I've steered clear of Facebook due to their harvesting personal data of users to sell to anyone or everyone. It's sad when so many go there instead of the forums!

Fingers crossed the pendulum of popularity swings back in the forum direction.  Maybe it's just me but I find it a lot easier to find information on Forums compared to searching Facebook.

Sad but true, I noticed if I slow down while scrolling over a particular topic the Facebook algorithms start sending that type of content to your browser.  I created an generic Facebook account, locked it down, no friends and post no personal information.  Your browsing history and location can still be tracked depending on your virus software and firewall settings.

I spoke to him at Carlisle this year. I ask why we didn't see him post here that much anymore. He mentioned about some conflicts or drama or something on this forum, but I didn't go into it or ask who or what it was. Wasn't really paying that much attention and I honestly just wanted to say hello when I walked by his vender space.

I do remember he said he was on the Facebook side and I told him I will not use it. Because I refuse to join Farcebook!! I read some of the original terms you have to agree to back when it first started, and just said no f-ing way am I giving up all they were asking. Every word, every picture, every like you post, they harvest and use it. And you gave all that to them when you hit that "I Agree" button.

I see S @Slotts leaving a fingerprint on this thread. Nice to see you are hanging around every now and then Jim.
Always admired your switch resto work.

Was this the Jim that used to restore panel dimmer switches?

Yes, but he did more than just the dimmers. I don't believe he is still in the business of electrical component restoration anymore... but maybe?

It's a bummer when a active member who contributes to a forum regularly disappeared.  Sometimes the reason is fairly public, but other times you never know.  I don't recall any drama here with Alan unless it was something behind the scenes that happened.
I remember when he was super active on Moparts, but a lot of people there trolled and criticized his restoration threads. I think it was the Barrelcuda thread that the negativity on drove him to go inactive there.
I don't recall much negativity on his build threads here, or was there some?
1 Wild RT is another valued member who went silent here.  He left Moparts after rightly feeling slighted for getting a "vacation" there for posting a meme that a mod found offensive, despite the fact another member had previously posted it there with no problems.  So his resentment about that forum is understandable, but why did he sour about participating here?  He is still active on For B Bodies only.
I was active on Moparts for a very long time, but for the last couple years I just lurk there, and post only on very rare occasions.  In my case, I started to feel like when I posted I'd usually get ignored, and when I wasn't ignored, it would be someone posting negative to what I'd posted.  I realized I really didn't like that many active current members there anymore, and felt it wasn't to my benefit to participate.  In my case I don't think anyone noticed me missing or cared I disappeared though.  :P

well, for my part I was not very active due to a lot of personal things going on with parents and kids and general family life, but now that I have been getting thisng going on my project again I definitely miss some of the technical advice - especially from those that have done many restorations - it is a bummer because I rely on this community heavily just because there is SO much I don't know about the details - plus its just fun
