Most car show's I see are comprised primarily of fully restored cars.  I agree, it's a nice break from the norm to something that's rough but still drivable.

RUNCHARGER

That's the thing though. If numbers don't matter then why pay $60k for a rust box?
I get the somewhat ratty driver deal but as said above, I come from where these cars were daily driven incuding winter and seeing this one with the bottom of the quarters totally gone just doesn't do it for me, it just looks like someone didn't do the care it needed way back. I can stand dull paint, a few scratches and maybe a slight dent or two, but not 6 square feet of missing sheetmetal. Too each their own of course but it just isn't my deal. When I see a car like this, I don't see a finished car, I see a project and I add up the hours and parts and it just doesn't add up for me.

Quote from: Katfish on November 20, 2025, 11:31:24 AMI think the hard-core numbers guys are becoming less and less. The old guys interested in the VIN numbers are dying off.
Younger guys have no idea about anything older than 2009 when the new ones came out.
I drive my car a lot, 1 out of 100 will ask if it's a real T/A.
The younger guys just think it's cool to see an old car on the road.
I guess if you just go to car shows, and even then it's rare to see old cars, the old guys may want to look at the VIN.
Face it, we're OLD, and young guys just don't care.
How many here would try to figure out the originality of a 50's car or care?
All good points.  Sad but true.  I recall a car show in my area a few years ago full of Ferrari's, Lamborghini's Aston Martin's and a few "old" cars.  I was pleasantly surprised to see the younger crowd consistently congregating around a 70 Hemi Cuda and a 1962 Olds F-58 with an factory original turbo charged aluminum V8.

I love the ratty look of this thing.  Lower quarters are a bit scary, but what really kills it for me is the auto on the column.   :alan2cents:

J-code cars are odd ducks to begin with , seeing one that's beat to crap is a sight in itself.

As much as I really don't like what you're saying I totally agree with what you are saying.
Most people want to see a nice old car, they do not care about the numbers or NOS this and that.

Quote from: torredcuda on November 19, 2025, 05:23:29 AMI saw it for sale before the dealer bought it.

What was the price then?

I don't remember for sure but I want to say low 60's so I guess the owner took a bunch less.

I think the bottom line on this car is that it is cool but priced way too high for what it currently is.

They are banking on the provenance of being a real AAR in justifying the higher price, despite it missing some important pieces.  Is it worth the asking price, for many of us, no. But all they need to do is find that one person who wants it bad enough...

Ricomondo

This car was for sale privately on the internet for about $56K IIRC? Maybe year to year and half ago and obviously no takers except the dealer. Good on him if he gets his price.
